Clonmullion FC has become the leading senior club in Kildare district football. Known as The Mull, the Athy area side plays at Micheal O Neill Park and has won five KDFL Senior Division titles in six seasons, backed by League Cup success and a long run against clubs from across Leinster.

A club rooted in Clonmullion
Clonmullion is on the northern side of Athy, and the club carries that local name throughout Kildare football. Its home ground is Micheal O Neill Park, where league deciders, cup ties and big Leinster matches have brought senior football into the neighbourhood. KDFL records use both Clonmullion FC and Clonmullion AFC for the same senior club.
Senior champions
Five league titles in six years
Clonmullion won the KDFL Senior Division in 2021 and built a run that made the club the team to catch. A 2–2 draw away to Clane in September 2026 secured a fifth title in six seasons. Cody Mulhall scored both Clonmullion goals on the day, before Clane struck twice in added time.

Lumsden Cup winners
The Mull has matched its league form with a strong Lumsden League Cup record. Clonmullion beat Clane on penalties in the 2024 final, then defeated Kildare Town 2–1 in 2025 to complete a league and cup double. The club has also won the Senior League, Senior Cup and Lumsden Cup in one season.
Leinster football
A Junior Cup quarter final run
Clonmullion reached the Leinster Junior Cup quarter finals in 2024 after wins over Drumcondra, Newlane, Ferns United, Rosslare Rangers and Old County. Roc Celtic ended the run with a 2–1 win in Graiguecullen, but the campaign placed the Athy side among the last eight clubs in one of Irish junior football’s oldest cups.

A settled winning core
Recent reports regularly feature Cody Mulhall, Nathan Robinson, Lee Doyle, Keane Cully, Garry Comerford, Jody Dillon and Mark Hughes. Mulhall has supplied goals in title matches, while Robinson has captained the side and delivered from set pieces. Barry Hughes, Martin Redmond and Brian Hickey were named KDFL managers of the year after the 2019 season.

Clonmullion’s public records centre on the senior team, so no list of boys’ or girls’ age groups is stated here. Its value to younger local players is still clear: a successful adult side close to Athy offers a visible standard to aim for and keeps high level junior football within the area. Current youth registration should be checked with the club before choosing an age group.
Club history
How Clonmullion rose to the top of the KDFL
Clonmullion’s rise can be followed through the KDFL’s honours and match reports. By 2019, Oisín Boylan had been named the league’s young player of the year, Colm Cuddy had taken the Over 35s Division 2 award, and the club’s management team had earned the managers of the year prize. The first Senior Division title in the current run arrived in 2021.
The following seasons turned a strong side into serial champions. Micheal O Neill Park became a difficult place for visiting teams, with Clonmullion combining a settled defence, dangerous set pieces and match winners through the middle and wide areas. The 2022 title went to a final day meeting with Athy Town at home. Later campaigns brought more silverware, including the 2024 Lumsden Cup after a 2–2 draw with Clane and a 6–5 penalty shootout.
In 2025, Clonmullion won the Senior Division again and beat Kildare Town in the Lumsden Cup final. The next season brought another close race with Clane. A point on the last day was enough for Clonmullion to retain the title and complete a fifth championship in six years. That run now sits at the heart of the club’s story: a local side from the edge of Athy setting the pace in Kildare’s top junior division.
