Arklow Town FC at Lamberton

Arklow Town FC brings a 1948 Wicklow football identity, Lamberton ground story, boys and girls pathway, senior cup setting and black, white and red club colours together at Travers Insurances Park.

Arklow Town identity

Arklow Town FC is a County Wicklow football club based at Travers Insurances Park in Lamberton, with black and white home colours and red used as the change colour. The crest ties the club to town identity through the red ribbons, anchor, football, stripes and 1948 date.

The club serves a wider football route than one senior side. Families see boys and girls underage teams in Wicklow football, an Under 18 boys route in the Dublin and District Schoolboys and Girls League, and a senior presence connected with Leinster football.

That mix gives Arklow Town a clear identity for local children, older youth players, adult footballers and visiting teams travelling to the Lamberton ground.

From Dock Green to Lamberton

Arklow Town was founded in late 1948 as Arklow United. The earliest football was informal, with practice games and kickabouts at Dock Green before a settled competitive structure developed.

The first known match was away to Wicklow Town. Arklow lost 5 to 2, with David O Brien scoring both Arklow goals. By December 1950 the club had 24 members, showing that the new football group had moved beyond a casual start.

September 1951 brought the first competitive Wicklow League game against Kilmacanogue. John Keogh scored Arklow first competitive goal, and by that stage the club had moved into Lamberton as its home.

Ground growth and facilities

Lamberton has a long place in the club story. The club shared the venue in its early years and did not obtain a lease on the property until 1970, so the ground became part of the club identity over time rather than arriving fully formed.

The grass pitch opened in 1992, giving the club a stronger playing base. An AstroTurf pitch followed in April 2011, adding an important all weather layer for training, underage activity and a broader football programme.

Those dates explain why Lamberton matters to Arklow Town. It is not simply an address; it is the football base around which the club built its modern activity.

Senior football pathway

Arklow Town’s senior football has included Leinster Senior League and Wicklow and District football. The current club calendar includes senior activity at Travers Insurances Park, including an April 2026 FAI Intermediate Cup evening against Trinity Donaghmede.

The club also has national cup notes in its history. Arklow Town played in the 2009 FAI Cup, beat University College Dublin Leinster Senior League side in the second round and then met the University College Dublin first team in the third round.

The 2009 to 2010 season brought a major senior milestone when Arklow Town won the Leinster Senior League Division 1 title and earned promotion to the Senior Division. The club also qualified for the FAI Cup again in 2015.

Boys and girls underage route

Arklow Town’s 2026 to 2027 underage footprint includes Wicklow Schoolboys and Girls Soccer League activity from Under 12 through Under 16, plus a boys Under 18 route in the Dublin and District Schoolboys and Girls League.

The Wicklow pathway includes A, B and C entries across younger ages, with Premier, Division 1 and Division 2 settings depending on the squad. That depth matters for families because it gives more players a level appropriate route rather than placing every child into one team.

Girls football is visible in the Under 14 girls development pathway. For parents, the durable point is that Arklow Town offers boys and girls youth football, with squad levels, venues and kick off details handled by the site modules and club communications.

Wicklow activity Under 12, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16

Membership and joining

The club invites families and players to join through a membership plan structure. Current information highlights options for instalment payments and a family membership cap, which is useful for households with more than one player.

A good first enquiry should include the player age, boys or girls pathway, playing experience, preferred role, parent contact details and any timing constraints. For older players, it should also state whether the question relates to youth, junior or senior football.

Because Arklow Town has several pathway layers, the clearest joining route is to ask for the relevant coordinator rather than sending a general message with no player details.

Merchandise and club identity

Arklow Town also carries its identity through supporter merchandise. The current range includes a long sleeve football jersey, a Darcy bobble hat and a Blitz boot bag, giving families simple ways to show the black, white and red identity around the ground.

The merchandise detail is not the centre of the football story, but it helps explain the club as a community. A parent arriving for a first session will see the same colours in the badge, kit, ground presentation and supporter items.

The important point for families is identity consistency: Arklow Town presents as a black and white football club with red accent colour and a maritime town symbol at the heart of the crest.

Badge symbols Anchor, ball, stripes and ribbons
Supporter items Jersey, bobble hat and boot bag

Players who carried the route onward

A number of Arklow Town players are associated with higher level football. Liam Scales is the standout international name connected with the club, while Aaron Barry, Eric Molloy and Daire O Connor are also named among players who moved on to senior professional or higher level football settings.

For younger players, those names matter because they show a possible route beyond local football without turning the club into a promise factory. The everyday work remains coaching, participation, team habits and steady development at Lamberton.

The best way to read those names is as part of the club story: Arklow Town is a local Wicklow club that has also played a part in the development of players who travelled further in the game.

Community events and senior nights

The club calendar includes more than weekend league football. Current club activity includes youth updates, membership activity, merchandise, community highlights and event promotion around senior cup nights at Travers Insurances Park.

The April 2026 midweek cup night against Trinity Donaghmede is a useful example of how the ground is used as a community football setting. Evening senior football brings younger players, families and local supporters around the same club space.

That connection between senior nights, youth teams and family membership is important. It helps Arklow Town feel like one club rather than separate age groups sharing a name.

First visit guidance

A first visit to Arklow Town should start with the Lamberton address and Y14 XV74 Eircode, then a check of the exact pitch, start time and arrival instructions. Travers Insurances Park is the core ground, but team age, activity type and weather can still affect the practical detail.

Parents should confirm the player age group, whether the session is boys, girls, youth or senior football, footwear needed for the surface, and whether membership or trial arrangements are required before taking part.

Visiting teams should plan around Lamberton Avenue, allow time for arrival, and confirm any competition instructions through the organiser. The map supports travel planning, while changing football data remains in the club modules.
