Cregmore and Claregalway | Founded 1996 | Red and black

A Galway club with room for young players to grow

Cregmore Claregalway FC gives local families a clear football pathway, from early fun sessions into girls, boys, junior, ladies and veteran football.

Club roots

From Saturday morning football to a large community club

Cregmore Claregalway FC grew from Saturday morning football at Cregmore Sportsfield, where children from the national school could play, learn and enjoy a penalty shootout at the end of the morning. The sessions became popular because they were open, simple and close to home.

The club was formally created on 17 July 1996 at Cregmore National School. The first official teams entered Galway football at under 12 and under 14, giving local players a regular match route against established clubs.

That early spirit still explains the club well. It is a place for families from Cregmore, Claregalway and nearby areas who want organised football, steady coaching and a sense of local belonging before chasing anything bigger.

For parents: include the player’s year of birth and preferred group in the first message, then ask which pitch and arrival point applies that week.

Pathway

More than 750 players across girls, boys and adult football

The club has grown into one of the larger football homes in the area, with more than 750 players across boys and girls of all ages. The pathway reaches beyond school age football into junior soccer, ladies football, under 21, over 35 and over 42 groups.

For a young player, that scale can be reassuring. A child can start close to their own age group, move through local competition and still see older teams wearing the same colours. The pathway is broad without asking every player to want the same thing.

For families, the main task is to find the right entry point. Some children need a gentle first session, some need a team after moving house, and some are ready for regular league football. A clear message to the club saves time for everyone.

First stepsYounger players need welcome, ball contact, simple routines and a coach who helps them settle.
Girls and boysGirls and boys have distinct team routes, so ask for the right age group and contact.
Adult gameJunior, ladies and veteran football keep the club connection open beyond school age.

Crest and colours

Red, black and the Cregmore Bridge identity

The red and black colours have been part of the club identity from the early years, with red chosen as the dominant colour. They give Cregmore Claregalway teams a strong look and help families spot the correct group on busy football days.

The crest connects the club to the local landscape. It carries the river and arches at Cregmore Bridge, with the River Clare representing the catchment area that brought families into the club from the start.

That local identity gives the badge a purpose beyond decoration. It tells new players that the club belongs to their area, not just to a fixture list or a single team.

Grounds

Cregmore today and Waterdale for future growth

The main football base is in Cregmore, close to the national school, at Cregmore, Claregalway, Co. Galway H91 EY79. Families should use the team message for the exact entrance, parking advice and pitch plan.

Waterdale is part of the club’s growth plan. The club describes it as a new base to balance activity across two sites and support the growing Claregalway area, with the goal of improving amenities for youth, families and wider community use.

First visit

Make the first session easy for the player

A first session goes better when the player knows the simple things in advance: where to meet, what footwear to bring, whether water is needed, who the coach is and whether the session is training, a friendly game or a league fixture.

Parents should tell the coach if the player is new to football, returning after time away, nervous in a large group or moving from another club. That small context helps the coach welcome the player properly and avoid placing them in the wrong group.

Players should arrive ready to listen, share the ball, respect the coach and enjoy the first night. The aim is not to prove everything straight away; it is to find a good football rhythm.

Before you travel

Questions worth asking

Area Ask this before the first session or fixture
Age group Which girls, boys, junior, ladies or veteran group is right for the player?
Venue Is the session at Cregmore, Waterdale or another arranged pitch?
Arrival What time should players arrive before training or kickoff?
Footwear Should the player bring boots, astro shoes or runners?
Contact Who should parents message if weather or pitch access changes?

First enquiry

Send the details that help the club answer well

A useful first message includes the player name, year of birth, local area, previous club if any, and whether the family is asking about girls football, boys football, junior soccer, ladies football or an older group.

Ask for the next suitable session, the exact location for that week and any gear the player should bring. If the player needs a calmer start or extra support, say that early so the first arrival can be handled with care.

Check the latest club or coach notice before travelling, as training plans, pitch access and fixture venues can change during the season.
