Dalkey United at Hyde Park

Dalkey United connects 1953 history, academy football, 35 school teams, girls football, senior football and a major Hyde Park community event culture in South County Dublin.

Dalkey United in South County Dublin

Dalkey United Football Club is a South County Dublin club with football for academy players, school age teams, girls teams, boys teams, young adults and senior players. The club is centred on Dalkey and Hyde Park, with training and match activity also spread across other local pitches.

The club’s football purpose is built around player development, a love for the game and community spirit. That makes Dalkey United a football home for local families as well as a competitive pathway for players who want to progress.

Founded in 1953

Dalkey United was founded in 1953 and quickly became part of the local football community. The club later won the FAI Intermediate Cup in the 1973 to 1974 season, a major national honour in intermediate football.

The club is also connected with one of Ireland’s most respected players. Paul McGrath played for Dalkey United before his professional career with Manchester United, Aston Villa and the Republic of Ireland. That story gives the youth pathway a strong sense of possibility.

Crest and colours

The Dalkey United crest uses a black circular ring, white club lettering, the foundation split as 19 and 53, a sailing ship, blue water, green coastal cliffs and a black castle tower. The badge ties the football club to Dalkey’s coast, harbour and local landmarks.

The main colours are white and black, with blue and white also used as away colours. The black and white kit identity is reinforced through match age kit distribution, with black shorts and black socks supplied to subscribed members in match playing age groups.

Hyde Park and local pitches

Hyde Park is the main football home for Dalkey United and is the venue named in the DDSL club profile. The wider pitch network also includes Hudson Road, Shanganagh Cliffs and Castlepark school for academy activity.

The club uses this pitch network because the football programme is larger than one field. Families should always check team messages for the exact pitch, surface and arrival point before travelling.

Hudson Road Additional Dalkey pitch location used by the club.
Shanganagh Cliffs Coastal pitch location named by the club.

Hyde Park clubhouse and facilities need

The Hyde Park clubhouse is part of the club’s day to day operation, with kit distribution, club meetings, parent communication and football activity all linked to the venue.

Dalkey United has also pushed for improved access to all weather pitch time and Hyde Park improvements because wet weather has created repeated postponements. That facilities challenge matters for a club with hundreds of children and young adults training and playing every week.

Academy pathway

Dalkey United’s academy gives the youngest players a structured first step into the club. The 2025 to 2026 academy restart placed under 5 and under 6 players at 9am, under 7 players at 10am and under 8 players at 11am at Castlepark school.

The academy sits outside the older DDSL registration route and is designed for early football, confidence and fun. From there, players move toward match playing age groups and the wider club pathway.

Under 5 and under 6 Early football at 9am in the 2025 to 2026 academy restart.
Under 7 Next academy step at 10am.
Under 8 Final academy stage before the match age route, starting at 11am.
Next stage Older players move toward teams, league registration and regular match football.

School age and senior football

Dalkey United now has more than 600 members, a strong senior men’s team and 35 school boys and girls teams. The school age pathway covers players from under 9 through under 18, with DDSL registration used for DDSL teams.

The club structure also reaches the Leinster Football League, Metropolitan Girls football and the senior men’s setup. That gives players a route from academy football to teenage squads and young adult football while staying within the Dalkey United identity.

Girls football growth

Girls football is a major part of Dalkey United. Nearly a quarter of the membership has been female, with 8 girls teams playing in the DDSL and the senior girls pathway reaching under 15 Premier level in recent seasons.

The club has created memorable football experiences for girls teams, including a 2012 girls group playing at Dalymount Park during a Bohemian FC women’s match day and under 15 girls travelling to Bavaria after playing at the highest level in Dublin.

Under 21 and player progression

Dalkey United’s young adult pathway includes an under 21 team that won the Leinster Football League under 21 Section B and reached the under 21 cup final in the 2023 to 2024 season. The team won 13 of 16 matches and scored 72 goals.

The club also highlights player progression through academy and youth squads into higher football environments. One recent example is a Dalkey United under 15 player spending a week training with the Bray Wanderers academy after coming through the club pathway.

Champions League weekend

The Dalkey United Champions League has become a major club event over the May Bank Holiday. The 2026 weekend involved nearly 500 players, 82 coaches, 48 teams, more than 30 referees and thousands of family members and friends at Hyde Park.

The event depends on volunteers across coaching, barbecue, tuck shop, pitch set up, clean up, medals, academy football and weekend logistics. Paul McGrath also attended as a special guest in 2026, connecting the club’s history with the next generation.

Event scale 2026 detail
Players Nearly 500 children and young people in the 2026 event.
Teams 48 teams across the weekend.
Coaches 82 coaches involved.
Referees More than 30 referees supported the matches.
Community Thousands of family members and friends around Hyde Park.

Camps and club events

Dalkey United runs a busy event calendar around the football year. Easter camps, summer camps at Hyde Park, Champions League weekend and the St Patrick’s Day Parade all give families ways to connect outside regular league football.

The club has also organised wider experiences such as groups travelling to Tallaght Stadium to support the Ireland women’s national team. These events help young players see football as something larger than their own weekly session.

Membership and registration

Dalkey United uses the club mobile app for membership, payments, team updates and club communication. The 2026 to 2027 membership route is promoted through the club’s digital hub, while renewals may sit on a temporary waiting list until accepted because of pressure on numbers.

DDSL players from under 9 to under 18 also need a league registration process. That route requires player identification and a recent head and shoulders photo before a player can be allocated to a squad and become eligible for league football.

Volunteers and club roles

Dalkey United depends heavily on parents and volunteers. Current role needs have included club communications, social media, technology, event organisation, ground crew, pitch maintenance, younger age group organisation and coaching.

The club has also sought support for treasurer work, behaviour and disciplinary liaison, referee development and committee duties. Those roles sit behind the football families see every weekend and are essential for a club with hundreds of players.

Volunteer area Purpose
Football roles Coaches, age group organisers and team volunteers.
Club operations Communications, technology, events, ground crew and pitch maintenance.
Governance Treasurer and behaviour liaison support.
Referee pathway Born to Lead and junior referee development routes.

Inclusion plans

Dalkey United has set out plans for Walking Football and Football For All groups. Walking Football is aimed at men and women over 60, using smaller pitches, no running, no contact and a social format that keeps people active.

Football For All is aimed at inclusion for players with disabilities from age 6 upward. Adding these groups would widen the club beyond ordinary team football and strengthen Dalkey United’s role as a community football setting.

Sponsor and partner network

Sponsorship is central to Dalkey United because it helps pay for jerseys, pitch rental and the running costs that allow the club to operate week by week. SIA Partners supported the club for three years, and the club continues to seek partners who want to support local football.

The Champions League weekend also shows the sponsor network around the club. Rushe’s SuperValu, Frank Keane BMW, Dovida, Caterhire, Homeground, Mason Hayes & Curran, Bel Gelato, KPMG, Childline and Free State podcast were all connected with the event.

Digital communication

Dalkey United communicates through its website, club mobile app, Dalkey United News, X, Instagram and Facebook. The club mobile app handles membership, updates and club notices, while the newsletter route gives parents longer updates on academy dates, volunteers, facilities and events.

The general contact route is admin@dalkeyunited.ie. The club also lists registration, age group coordinator and general contact routes for families who need the right person for a query.

Visiting Dalkey United

Use Hyde Park, Dalkey, A96 H3F8 as the main venue reference for Dalkey United. The club also uses Hudson Road, Shanganagh Cliffs and Castlepark school, so visiting families should confirm the exact pitch before travel.

The map below is set to Hyde Park. For academy or team sessions, check the group message for the correct pitch, time and parking plan because Dalkey United uses several football locations around the area.
