Club story

From the River Nanny to Carranstown

Duleek AFC’s published record starts in the 1960s, but it does not settle on one foundation year. The official history timeline labels one entry “1966 Foundation of Duleek AFC” and gives another account saying the club was founded in April 1967. That account names Pat McKeown as the donor of the first pitch beside the River Nanny and the club’s first president. This profile leaves the founded-year field empty until the club resolves the difference.

The early side moved into organised league football in 1971. The club history says Duleek entered the AUL Louth & District League and finished in the upper half in each of its first two seasons. It records the Referees Shield as the first trophy, won through the Drogheda Summer League in 1972.

The club’s detailed account of 1973 describes its strongest season to that point. Duleek won the league knockout cup after a replay against Dee United, took another league competition by beating Fromin United in the final, and added the Drogheda Summer League Referees Shield. The side also reached the St Patrick’s Cup final, but that final appearance is not counted as a win.

The timeline marks the club’s 21st birthday celebration in 1987 and credits Teddy Seary as an important figure on and off the pitch. It later records a Challenge Cup win in 2006. The current home page displays a counter of 22 league wins. As it does not list seasons or competition names, the counter is reported as the club’s own figure rather than expanded into unverified honours.

Duleek now describes itself as a schoolboys’ and schoolgirls’ club. Its current home page advertises academy football, coaching and volunteering, and its navigation runs from U8 to U19. The birth years printed beside those menu items appear to be an old snapshot, so this profile uses age groups rather than repeating outdated birth-year labels.

The club site currently shows counters for ten teams, more than 200 registered people and over 20 coaches. Those figures can change and should not be treated as the exact 2026–27 squad list. The coaching page says the active coaches hold at least the listed introductory qualification, with some holding higher awards. Families should ask the club for the coach and training slot attached to their own age group.

Irish Youth Football currently connects 41 team records for the 2026–27 NERL season. Thirty-five are boys-coded: nine at U12, five at U13, four at U14, six at U15, five at U16 and six without an age label. Four are girls-coded, comprising three U13 records and one with no age label. Two further records have no pathway label, one of them U14. Repeated club-and-age names may come from separate competition imports rather than distinct named squads. The panel below displays the first 30 records; the filtered Duleek team archive carries the remaining linked records.

This is incomplete team coverage. There are no connected academy or adult cards, no boys-coded U8–U11, U17, U18 or U19 cards, and no girls-coded U12 or U14-and-older age cards. The club’s own programme is wider than the automated list below. The membership page covers academy, youth and adult categories, while the official contact page is the best route for an age that is missing here.

The IYF fixture view currently has no upcoming match. Its results view loads 50 saved results and offers a further batch. These are attached to the connected team records rather than a hand-written match list. The NERL club profile is the source for current competitions, results, contact details, badge and kit registration.

The registered home kit has a green-and-black vertically striped shirt with green shorts and green socks. NERL also lists a black shirt with black shorts and green socks, plus a white shirt with green shorts and green socks. The club’s O’Neills shop shows current branded clothing, while the badge used here follows the league profile.

Duleek’s current home is at Carranstown in County Meath. Both the club address and the league venue record support that location. The public sources do not give a reliable pitch-by-pitch facilities list, an Eircode or match-day parking instructions.

Visitors should confirm the assigned pitch, entrance, surface, parking, changing access, toilets, refreshments and step-free route before setting out. Contact the club if a fixture notice does not provide enough detail. The map below searches for Duleek AFC at Carranstown and should be checked against the home team’s instructions.
