Leixlip United AFC
Community football from the Leixlip Amenities Centre, with a long schoolboy and schoolgirl story across Kildare and the DDSL.
Club identity
Leixlip football since 1969
Leixlip United AFC was formally established in 1969, after earlier teams had represented the town and an Ormeau side had brought senior football to Leixlip. The club’s own history records two senior teams in its opening season and a 58-game unbeaten league run that carried the first team through the Athletic Union League divisions.
The club remains based in Leixlip, County Kildare, with the connected 2026–2027 record placing its youth football in the DDSL. The page keeps the historic story separate from the exact age-group relationships held by the live Teams module.
Youth pathway
Schoolboy and schoolgirl football at the heart of the club
Leixlip United fielded its first DDSL schoolboy side in 1970–1971, an under-14 team managed by Sean Purcell. By 1974–1975 the schoolboy section had grown to three teams, including an under-12 side, an under-15 side and a youths team. The schoolgirl section began in 1985 with an under-15 team and went on to record a notable run of success across under-12 to under-18 football between 1989 and 1994.
Today’s age groups, divisions, fixtures and seasonal links belong to the native Teams module. Academy, camps and membership information should be confirmed through the club’s current channels, while the live IYF modules provide the precise 2026–2027 team record.
Colours and crest
A red Leixlip United identity
The enhanced crest retains the original red ribbon, white lettering, grey dolphin and three footballs, with black linework and gold edging adding definition. Together those elements give the club a clear visual identity that can be recognised across the page, team cards and match records.
The crest asset is preserved as the canonical club mark. It is shown with a polished finish in the opening panel, while native team and fixture cards continue to use the connected club identity for each current relationship.
Leixlip Amenities Centre
A settled home after years of moving grounds
Leixlip United’s history describes years of moving between Green Lane, Newtown, Dodsboro and the Castle grounds before the Leixlip Amenities project created a permanent base. The schoolboys moved to the Amenities in November 1982, the senior section followed for the 1984–1985 season, and work completed in 1990–1991 provided three pitches and an all-weather training area.
The DDSL profile connects the club with Leixlip Amenities Centre at W23 R942. Match-day visitors should check the fixture card for the exact pitch, kick-off and any age-group venue change, then follow the club’s current parking and pitch-etiquette information.
Competition record
From local leagues to a broad football programme
Leixlip United’s history records a senior promotion run in the Athletic Union League, a move into the Leinster Senior League in 1988–1989 and three successive promotions beginning with the 2011–2012 campaign. The club reached the Leinster Senior League Senior division for the first time in 2013–2014. Those senior milestones sit alongside the long-running DDSL schoolboy and schoolgirl programme.
Use the native Fixtures, Results and Standings tabs for current 2026–2027 records. They keep each age group in its own competition context and prevent older honours or historical divisions from being read as a current team entry.
Community and joining
A club with football, families and volunteers at its centre
Leixlip United’s current site provides membership information, academy details, camps and events, policies for coaches and parents, safeguarding material and a club contact route. Its history also records the volunteer effort behind the Amenities development, including fundraising, local partnerships and the work needed to provide changing rooms, showers and training space.
Families should use the club’s current membership and contact channels to confirm age-group places, academy sessions, fees, training times and registration requirements. The connected IYF record then supplies the season-specific team, fixture, result and standings information for each registered squad.
