Lucan United FC
Red-and-white football from Airlie Heights, with youth, academy, girls’ and boys’ pathways connected to the Lucan community.
Club identity
A Lucan club shaped by local football
Lucan United traces its roots to Spa Rovers in the 1950s, followed by Lucan Celtic and Dodsboro. Those two Lucan teams merged in 1968 and became Lucan United in 1969. The club’s own history records a later 1999 merger with Intel FC, a step that restored a Lucan United presence in the Leinster Senior League and brought players, volunteers and committees together.
That long local story still frames the current club: a multi-section football organisation serving Lucan and the wider South Dublin area, with youth football at the centre of its weekly activity.
Youth pathway
Academy, girls’ and boys’ teams
Lucan United’s current club information describes more than 700 players, 37 competitive teams and an academy for children aged four to seven, with more than 70 young participants. The club reports more than 30 girls’ and boys’ teams in the DDSL, alongside two Leinster Senior League squads and an over-35s Amateur Football League team.
The 2026–2027 age groups, team names, divisions and seasonal relationships belong to the native Teams module. That connected record should be used for the exact squad view, while this profile explains how the academy leads into organised youth football and how the girls’ and boys’ sections sit within the wider club.
Colours and crest
Red, white, black and gold
The DDSL club profile records red and white jerseys with black shorts and socks as the primary strip, with black and gold jerseys and black shorts and socks listed for the change kit. The circular crest carries the Lucan United Football Club name around a shield of red and gold stripes, black detailing, three stars and the club motto.
The enhanced crest in the opening panel keeps those identifying elements intact while adding depth and a polished finish. The same canonical club identity can then be recognised across team cards, fixtures, results and league tables.
Pitches and match days
Football grounds across Lucan and Dublin 15
Lucan United’s ground information lists Airlie Heights in Lucan at K78 AX20, with grass pitches and private parking in the school. Hillcrest is listed at K78 E8V0 with grass pitches and on-street parking. The club also lists Airlie Park at Finnstown for astro-pitch use and Copper Face Jacks Park on Westmanstown Road, Dublin 15, with a grass pitch and private parking.
Fixture cards remain the best place to check the exact pitch, date and kick-off for a particular age group. Visitors should allow time for local traffic, use the parking arrangement attached to the named venue, and follow the club or competition notice if a match is moved.
Honours and development
Recent youth success alongside senior milestones
Lucan’s published history records a strong recent run. In 2026 the U15 girls won the Irish Rail Cup and the U14.3 girls won their league. In 2025 the U14 boys’ section won its league and Hollywood Cup, the U18s won the Joshua Wilserhun Memorial Cup, the U14.7 boys were league champions and the U14 girls won an All-Ireland title for a second year in a row. The club was also named Active South Dublin Sports Team of the Year.
The 2024 record includes the U13 girls winning the U14 SFAI Cup, Liam Farrell Cup and league, plus promotion for the U17 and U13 boys. The senior section won the Leinster Senior League and Charlie Cahill Cup in 2024, while the 2023 Metro Cup and earlier DDSL, girls’ and academy achievements show the depth of the club’s pathway. Current tables, fixtures and results should be read through the connected modules rather than inferred from the honours narrative.
Community and joining
A structured route from first session to competitive football
Lucan United describes football as a way to develop confidence, teamwork, respect and physical wellbeing in a supportive setting. Its academy is designed to prepare younger players for team football from under-eight level, while the club’s coaching and development work supports progression through the age groups. A partnership with Shamrock Rovers has also been described as a route for coaching support, local-school work and further opportunities for players with professional ambitions.
Families should use the club’s current contact and registration channels to confirm academy sessions, age-group availability, fees, training times, safeguarding information and the right local pitch. The live IYF teams, fixtures, results and standings connections then provide the season-specific football record for each registered squad.
