Village soccer on the county line

Moneygall gives local players a settled home in the village, with adult football, school age teams and a ground families can find without fuss.

From a Shinrone friendly

Moneygall FC began after a 1978 friendly against Shinrone, when Kieran Costello, Gerry Hayes and Matt Douglas set up a soccer club for the village and nearby parishes. A second junior team followed in 1981/82 at Gravel Park, and school age soccer arrived in the mid 1980s for players from Moneygall and surrounding villages.

That early story also explains why the club is an Offaly club with a strong North Tipperary football life: Moneygall sits close to the county line, and the soccer pathway has long looked toward the North Tipperary league network.

A ground in the heart of the village

For many years Moneygall moved between rented pitches, including Barna and Ballingrawn. The village ground opened in 2017 with a Moneygall Masters game against Republic of Ireland Masters, giving the club a full size grass pitch in the heart of Moneygall.

The club map places Moneygall Football Club at 52.88063, -7.95419, and later ground works are tied to Elderberry Drive, Moneygall, Birr, Co. Offaly. Visiting families should use the club pin rather than a town centre search.

Floodlights, a training area, the community garden and the walking track all sit within the wider village ground story, so the football ground is also part of the local community space.

Football for school age players

Moneygall’s 2025/26 membership notes include adult registration, juvenile categories from U6 to U18, Disney Playmakers, Kick Fit and Football for All. The club history also points to summer camps, Soccer Sisters and girls blitz days, giving younger players several ways into football at the village ground.

Families with girls entering football, academy age players or a child trying soccer for the first time should start with the club website and the membership route, then confirm the right age group before travelling.

Adult soccer in North Tipperary

Moneygall is affiliated to the North Tipperary District League and the North Tipperary Schoolchildren’s League, and the NTDL club list names Moneygall FC among its member clubs. That setting links adult men, youth teams and school age football in the same regional football circle.

Fixtures, results and tables can change through the season, so the permanent story here is the club’s place in North Tipperary football and its village base in County Offaly.

A named cup win

The 2025 season gave the senior men’s side a named cup honour: Moneygall beat Cloughjordan 3-1 after extra time in the North Tipperary & District League First Division Barry Cup final. Julian Bentancourt was player of the match, and Dylan Maher and Jack O’Brien accepted the cup as joint captains.
