Renmore AFC in maroon and white
Renmore AFC has grown from a 1973 Community Games team into a Galway club with academy, youth, junior and community football.
Renmore identity
Renmore AFC was founded in 1973 to give young people in Renmore and nearby areas a safe, positive football setting. The club works around training, player development, fitness, friendly games and competitive games.
The maroon and white crest carries Renmore A.F.C., an eagle, a football and the 1973 foundation date. The eagle was chosen as an emblem of power and remains the clearest symbol of the club.
Community Games origin
The club began from a Community Games meeting in February 1973. Bernard Shapiro, Mike Darcy and Tony Dilleen were central to the first committee, with Tony Dilleen chairing the first meeting.
Other founding names included Patrick Shapiro, Bernard Shapiro Junior, Tom Murphy, John Coll, Damien Meaney, Paul Meaney and Paul Gaughan. The first boys met outside Molloy’s Shop before Renmore moved into organised Galway football.
Renmore pitches
Early training used open ground and Dun Na Mara Park before the sports fields were handed over. The football area that became the present Renmore pitches gave the club a lasting home for Galway football.
Families and visiting teams should confirm the exact pitch before travel, because Renmore has had several teams active across youth and adult fixtures.

Early youth and junior pathway
In July 1973 Renmore had 16 boys at under 12 and under 13 level. Six weeks later the club started the season with under 13, under 15 and under 18 teams.
The next season brought three teams in Galway FA juvenile football as well as a junior team. Bernard Shapiro carried several roles at the start, acting across management, chair, treasurer and secretary duties.
Academy, development and welfare
Renmore presents a full club structure around academy football, player development, coaches, membership, volunteers and child safeguarding. That makes the club useful for new families as well as players already ready for competitive football.
The club also keeps conduct, travel, recruitment, social media, data protection and spectator policies visible for families. Those safeguards support the playing pathway from academy groups through older youth and junior football.
Honours and cup milestones
Recent highlights include the Renmore Juniors winning the Rory McNulty Memorial Cup in 2023 and the under 15 team beating Kinvara 1 to 0 to win the 2022 to 2023 Division 2 under 15 League Cup.
The 2018 to 2019 under 16 squad completed a league and cup double, earned promotion to Premier League football and reached Connacht Cup and SFAI Regional Cup finals. Earlier honours include under 16 Connacht Shield success in 2011 and the club’s first Connacht Shield title in 2010.
Renmore has also had major adult football milestones, including a Premier League title in 1996, a Connacht Senior Cup win in 1997 and a national FAI Junior Cup semi final run in 1994.
Clubhouse and community base
The Renmore AFC clubhouse opened on Saturday 17 July 2010. The day brought the football community together and marked an important facilities step for the club.
That community role is part of the club identity. Renmore aims to help members build football skill, fitness, confidence, organisation, leadership and planning through the club environment.
Current Galway football setting
Renmore appears in Galway FA adult football in maroon and white. Recent reserve football placed the club against sides such as West United, Corrib Rangers, St Bernards, Dynamo Blues, East Galway United, Cois Fharraige and St Patricks.
The adult pathway sits beside the academy and youth structure, giving the club a wide age spread and a clear Galway football footprint.
First enquiry
New players and volunteers should use the club website contact routes. Include the player age, school year, previous football, preferred pathway and whether the interest is academy, youth football, junior football, coaching or volunteering.
For a match visit, confirm the pitch, arrival point, kick off time and team contact before travelling.
