Porterstown · Dublin 15
Generations of football since 1949
St Mochtas combines academy and youth football with a successful senior pathway at its Porterstown Road home in Dublin 15.
Club story
From the CYMS to Porterstown
St Mochtas was founded in September 1949 after members of the local Catholic Young Men’s Society voted to form an association football club. Early teams played at Somerton and Coolmine Lane before the club established a permanent base at Porterstown.
Youth football began in 1961, adding a development route beneath the adult side. That date is important because it shows that the present youth programme grew within the same club rather than appearing as a recent separate project.
The official crest preserves the foundation year, the St Mochtas name and its Latin motto. The red, black and white shield belongs to the Dublin 15 club and helps separate it from other saint named football records.
Senior achievement
National cups and league success
The club history records a run to the FAI Cup quarter finals in 2000. St Mochtas later won the FAI Intermediate Cup in 2020 and senior league titles in 2017 and 2023. These are senior achievements and should not be presented as youth trophies.
For developing players, the significance is that senior Leinster football exists within the same organisation. The pathway is visible, but progression still depends on the individual player, coaching decisions and the teams operating in the relevant season.
Players and families
Academy, youth and senior football
The programme spans introductory coaching, organised youth teams and the adult game. With many squads involved, a birth year alone may not identify the final team; experience and current playing level also help the club route an enquiry.
Parents should ask for the named coach, the exact pitch, training night, boots required for the surface, membership process and collection point. Adults should identify the senior level they are seeking. Volunteers should use official club contact so that coaching and safeguarding requirements can be handled correctly.
Porterstown Road
Grass, all weather football and club facilities
The main site includes an all weather pitch, grass pitches, parking, toilets and a club shop. The club publishes practical directions because several playing areas can be active and because the entrance sits close to residential homes.
Drivers are asked to keep left on entry and not to park in the estate opposite. Visiting teams should confirm whether their match is on the astro, a numbered grass pitch or the school pitch, then bring the appropriate footwear.
Beechpark
A second location in Clonsilla
St Mochtas also uses Beechpark in Clonsilla. The official visitor information directs drivers to the public car park and asks visitors to respect Fingal County Council park rules. A match notice that says Beechpark should not be treated as a reference to Porterstown Road.
At either location, confirm the kickoff, pitch, entrance and dressing arrangements. Weather and park decisions can affect grass fixtures, so check again on the day.
Joining and updates
Use the official club channels
The website provides club history, ground directions and organisational information. Social channels carry faster team and fixture updates, while YouTube adds club video. Use the source appropriate to the question rather than relying on an old directory entry.
