Community football across Dublin 5
St Pauls Artane connects academy, youth and adult football around Lein Road and McAuley Park.
Identity and history
Two neighbouring clubs became one Artane identity
St Pauls FC was founded by Toddy Fitzpatrick in 1975. In 1986 it joined with neighbouring Artane FC, creating the club name used today and bringing two local football traditions together. The history matters because St Pauls Artane is not simply a recent name placed on an older team; it records the development of a community club across north Dublin.
The badge carries that story. A shamrock represents the St Pauls side of the identity, while three castle towers connect the design with Dublin. The club name sits above a striped lower shield. That exact combination separates the Artane club from other teams named St Pauls.
The club describes its reach across Dublin 5, Dublin 13 and Dublin 17. Artane remains the anchor, with Lein Road and McAuley Park providing the practical centre for football and club activity.
Player pathway
From a first session to older youth and adult football
The club’s published programme begins with a Saturday academy for children aged five to eight. It then continues through school age teams, older youth football and adult squads. Youth teams appear in Dublin District Schoolboys and Schoolgirls League and North Dublin Schoolboys and Schoolgirls League structures, while the senior programme is managed through the club’s adult pathway.
A public team list can change as age groups move forward each season. Parents and players should use birth year, not school class alone, when asking which squad is suitable. Availability must be confirmed by the club and should never be inferred from an old fixture.
Grounds and facilities
Lein Road, McAuley Park and named club pitches
St Pauls Artane uses several pitches around its Artane base. Club information refers to the Home, Mercy and Dip pitches, while league and council listings also use Lein Road and McAuley Park. These names are locally meaningful, but they are not interchangeable directions for a visiting team.
The Artane base includes a floodlit seven a side artificial pitch, dressing rooms, clubhouse space and a gym. These facilities support coaching and team activity as well as wider community use. A facilities list does not establish that every room or surface is available for every fixture, so visitors should confirm current access.
Match visit
Match the pitch name and surface to the fixture
Check the newest team notice for the exact pitch, surface, entrance and kickoff. A reference to the Home pitch, Mercy pitch, Dip pitch, Lein Road or McAuley Park may describe a different meeting point within the local club area.
Grass and artificial surface assignments require different footwear. Ask before travelling, arrive early enough to find the correct team and avoid blocking nearby homes when parking. If weather affects a grass pitch, follow the club’s latest update rather than an older league listing.
For an academy visit, confirm the coach, meeting point and collection arrangement. Spectators should use the touchline and clubhouse areas directed by the club and keep team access routes clear.
Joining and safeguarding
Use the club’s current registration route
The official website carries academy information, team pages, registration guidance and safeguarding material. A useful first enquiry should include the player’s birth year, football experience and preferred position. Ask whether the relevant group is currently accepting players, where it trains, what footwear is needed and what membership arrangements apply.
For a child, use the organisational contact route shown by the club rather than a personal number copied from an old post. Parents should also review the current safeguarding and collection guidance before the first session. Adult players can include recent club experience and usual availability so the enquiry reaches the appropriate squad.
