Brackenstown · Swords · Since 1995

Swords Manor FC brings academy, youth and adult football to Brackenstown Park. For families in Swords, it offers a local route from a first session with the ball to girls’ and boys’ teams, with women’s and men’s football further along the pathway.

Club story

Two teams, then a home in Brackenstown

Swords Manor’s own history names Tony O’Reilly, Matt Downey and Gerry Wilson among the original committee behind its 1995 start. The first two teams entered the NDSL. Home matches initially took the club to St Finian’s school and Newbridge Demesne before it obtained its Swords Manor pitches in the late 1990s.

Smaller formats helped the club expand, while volunteers built its academy and youth programme. Jay Sherlock and Jim Tynan later developed a senior side in the UCFL. In the club’s 25th anniversary account, more than four out of five adult players had previously played youth football with Manor.

Players who carried that experience onwards

The same history records former players Jamie Finn and Megan Lynch-Smith progressing into senior women’s football, and Carl McKee representing Ireland in CP football. It also recalls NDSL league and cup successes and players selected for interleague and Kennedy Cup squads. A full dated honours roll is not published there.

A Friday academy for new footballers

The official academy page welcomes new children and names Éoin Sherlock as its contact. It publishes the Friday groups below. Check the next session and available places before attending, as times can change.

Group Published Friday time
Four-year-olds, mixed 4pm
Girls aged five to eight 5pm
Boys, beginners 5.40pm
Boys, advanced 6.20pm

Contact 087 278 5531 to ask which group fits your child. Mention their age and any previous football experience, then confirm footwear, registration and the meeting point. A group labelled “advanced” is not an age category, so let the academy advise you.

Beyond the academy

Girls, boys and adult football

The club’s current website describes a programme extending across underage, adult and over 35 football, for male and female players. Its recent updates show girls’ teams, several squads at the same boys’ age group and ongoing coach education.

This breadth is useful when choosing a club: an age group can contain more than one team, with different competitions and training arrangements. Ask for the named team contact instead of assuming that one timetable covers every child of the same age.

Teams and matches on IYF: use the connected cards below for the recorded team, league and season. They are not a complete list of every academy or adult activity. Confirm provisional kick-off times with the coach before travelling.

For older players, the club’s 2010-born team page provides a dedicated coaching contact. Team pages can retain material from earlier seasons, so confirm the current squad and session rather than relying on an old social post.

Finding Brackenstown Park

The club gives its address as Brackenstown Road, Swords Glebe, Swords, County Dublin. Its contact page says parking is available in the mall across the road and beside and behind the pub. Follow local signs and leave access clear for residents and other users.

For grass fixtures, check Fingal County Council’s Friday pitch report, which includes Swords Manor. A playable park does not by itself confirm that your team’s fixture is going ahead; the team notice remains the final check.

Brackenstown Road — club ground

Ask your team for the precise pitch and meeting point, and check toilet access or an accessible route before travel if needed.

Joining and helping

Speak to the club

Use hello@swordsmanorfc.ie or 087 278 5531 for a first enquiry. The official contact page also lists childwelfare@swordsmanorfc.ie for welfare matters and a separate sponsorship contact.

Before registration, ask about places, the fee and what it includes, training nights, kit requirements and any support your child needs. Parents interested in coaching or other volunteer work can ask about the club’s recruitment process rather than assuming that playing experience is required for every role.

Club information checked September 2026. Historic achievements and current joining details are kept separate; confirm session changes directly with Swords Manor.
