Cavan Monaghan Underage League
Two counties, shared ambition
Local youth football and representative opportunities connect clubs across Cavan and Monaghan.
The association
A youth league rooted in 2000
Cavan Monaghan Underage League, or CMUL, brings together youth football across the two counties. Its blue-and-white crest records its establishment in 2000, a date also recognised in the league’s twenty-fifth anniversary coverage in 2025.
The organisation’s local club programme and representative squads serve different purposes. Club teams provide the regular football that families follow through the season; a league squad brings selected players from that wider community together. Keep the CMUL identity separate from similarly named adult competitions when searching for your child’s team.
Club football
More opportunities for girls and boys
The league’s published 2026/2027 programme includes boys’ Premier, Championship and divisional competitions, alongside girls’ age-group leagues. September results show under-12, under-13, under-14 and under-16 girls’ football, with clubs including Carrick Rovers, Cootehill Harps, Kingscourt Harps and Monaghan United taking part.
For families, the practical first step is the local club. Ask about the available age groups, training arrangements, registration and the appropriate team contact. A club can explain how its youth teams fit into the league programme and confirm the arrangements for a new player.
Association honours
The inaugural Liam Miller Cup
CMUL’s under-13 representative team won the inaugural Liam Miller Cup in February 2019, beating Mayo 2–1 in the SFAI national championship final at Gainstown, Mullingar. The side had reached the final with a 1–0 semi-final victory over Limerick Desmond.
The trophy commemorated the former Republic of Ireland international. CMUL’s success was a league achievement, earned by its Emerging Talent Programme squad, and forms a distinct chapter alongside the honours won by individual clubs in local and national competitions.
The representative pathway
Following the county colours
Cavan Monaghan took part in the 2026 Kennedy Cup and was grouped with North Eastern Regional League, Limerick District and Dundalk. The 2026 Gaynor Cup draw placed its girls’ squad alongside Cork, Waterford District and Louth.
CMUL’s Emerging Talent Programme has its own Clubforce page, with membership and contact sections. Use the academy contact route for questions about its programme and arrangements. Club membership and academy participation are separate enquiries: confirm the relevant process before registering or making a payment.
