Galway’s youth football community
From local pitches to national honours
City and county clubs share a youth programme under the Galway Football Association.
The association
Football across city and county
Galway’s underage leagues form part of the Galway Football Association, the volunteer organisation responsible for association football in Galway. The GFA’s wider remit includes adult competitions, while this profile focuses on the youth game and its local club community.
The official website brings fixtures, results, competitions and a team directory together. Use the age-group heading when following a team: a club may have several sides in different competitions, and an adult league table does not describe its underage programme.
The 2026/2027 programme
A new season for girls and boys
The GFA announced that its 2026/27 season would begin on 29 August, with under-14, under-16 and under-18 boys’ and girls’ teams taking the opening weekend’s field. The announcement covered clubs across Galway city and county.
Families should start with their local club for available places, registration, training and the correct team contact. Match schedules can differ between age groups, so check the named competition and published fixture date before planning a weekend around a game.
Association honours
Kennedy Cup champions, twice
Galway won the Kennedy Cup in 2023, defeating Midlands 2–1 in the final. A 3–0 semi-final win over Wexford had taken the representative side into that decider, following a penalty-shootout victory against Kilkenny in the quarter-final.
In June 2026, Galway lifted the trophy again with a 1–0 final victory over North Eastern Regional League at the University of Limerick. That campaign included a quarter-final shootout against Kilkenny and a semi-final win over DDSL. The two titles belong to Galway’s representative football history, bringing players together beyond their individual club teams.
League information
An office and resources for the game
The Galway Football Association lists its address at Eamonn Deacy Park, Dyke Road, Galway, H91 AV81. This is the association’s published contact location; a youth team’s match venue should be checked separately on its fixture and with its club.
The GFA’s Downloads & Links page groups player-development material, representative-team information, referee documents and safeguarding resources. Some documents carry earlier season dates, so ask the association or your club which version applies before using a form or relying on a competition rule.
