Youth football in the northwest
Across clubs, across counties
Local clubs and representative football bring young players together across the Sligo and Leitrim region.
The association
Football rooted in local communities
The Sligo–Leitrim Schoolboys and Schoolgirls League organises youth football through local clubs, with leagues, cups and tournaments for young players. Coaching, fair play and player welfare form part of its approach to the game.
Its identity spans both schoolboy and schoolgirl football. The league’s red, black and gold crest carries the year 1975, while its work today connects players, coaches and volunteers across the northwest. Local club football remains the starting point for regular training and matches.
Finding a club
Start with the people closest to home
The league’s club directory provides direct contact routes for clubs including Arrow Harps, Carrick Town, Dromahair, Manorhamilton Rangers and Strand Celtic. It is a useful first stop for families looking for a nearby team or a club secretary.
Ask your chosen club about the appropriate age group, training location and registration arrangements. Check those details before attending: an association contact can help with league administration, but the club is the place to discuss a child’s weekly participation and the team that suits them.
Representative football
Wearing the regional colours
Representative squads bring players together beyond their own clubs. The league’s autumn 2025 interleague programme included under-12, under-13 and under-14 girls, alongside under-13 boys. That programme included games against Mayo, Inishowen, Longford and Cavan Monaghan opposition.
At the 2026 Kennedy Cup in Limerick, Sligo–Leitrim beat Lisburn 2–0 and won a penalty shootout against Longford. The squad also recovered from two goals down against Clare before losing 3–2. These are dated representative performances, separate from the honours and weekly competitions of individual clubs.
Coaches and volunteers
Supporting the game around the pitch
The league promotes coaching education through its club network, including opportunities involving Sligo Rovers and the FAI. Its notices also invite help with the logistics and administration behind local football.
For a volunteer, the best first conversation is about the work needed and the time available. Contact the league secretary about league administration, or speak to a club about helping locally. Coaches can follow official notices for course and clinic arrangements rather than relying on an old event announcement.
Getting in touch
Send your question to the right place
Sligo–Leitrim provides separate email routes for fixtures and results and for other league enquiries. Its contact page also offers a form and a regional development contact, keeping competition questions distinct from general administration.
For a match query, include the club names, age group, competition and scheduled date so the organiser can identify the game. For joining and training questions, use the club directory. Check official fixture information close to travel, especially after a postponement or venue change.
