AC Celtic grew from street football in Auburn Heights and Cartrontroy. Those two neighbourhoods gave the club its initials. Today, Tormey Villas remains a home venue in the CCFL’s published records.
From street leagues to a club
A 2020 history in the Athlone Advertiser records AC Celtic’s foundation in 1998. Michael Seery was among those who organised local street leagues and tournaments before the club took shape.
After using several pitches, AC settled at Tormey Villas. The report describes a full size pitch, training area and community centre, developed through the work of the local committee.
Young players and senior football
The club’s underage history includes Midlands Schoolboys/Girls League football and SFAI cup competition. Joe Carmody was an AC player until 2015 before going on to League of Ireland football with Athlone Town and Galway United.
The CCFL’s September 2026 notice places AC Celtic in Division 4B and names Tormey Villas as its home venue. This provides an adult route alongside the club’s established underage football.

Girls’ futsal success and Club Mark
The 2020 season account records a girls’ futsal B final win, with Isobelle Kearney and Chloe Madden scoring in the final. A complete roll of league and cup honours has not been confirmed.
FAI Westmeath congratulated AC Celtic on its Club Mark Entry Award, recognising the work led by Tony Gill.
Club colours
Blue with white detail
The AC Celtic range at JAKO Ireland shows blue shirts, shorts and socks with white trim and branding. Its club emblem features a white tower with a red roof inside a circular border. Ask the club which items are required for a player’s squad before ordering.
Visiting Tormey Villas
The club’s public profile gives Tormey Villas, Athlone, N37 W7P3. The current league venue record also names Tormey Villas.
Confirm the pitch and kick off time for each visit. Ask about parking, toilets, shelter and accessible entry, as a full current facilities inventory is not available. Leave residential entrances clear when arriving or collecting players.

The SFAI directory lists the club secretary’s email as secretaryofacceltic@gmail.com. Send the player’s age and ask about places, training days, registration and fees. The club’s Facebook page is another route for current announcements.
