From AK Utd to Askeaton/Kilcornan
BMC Sports’ account of the two clubs dates AK United’s foundation to 2015. Youth football brought boys and girls from the Kilcornan area into league and cup competition.
The combined club’s history records the 2023 amalgamation. AK’s own club page directed followers to the new club that August. Older AK records remain part of that history.
A winning first season
The Limerick Desmond league’s 2015/16 honours list records an exceptional return for AK Utd: the boys won under 14 Division 2, under 16 Division 1 and the under 15 and under 16 cups.
The girls won the under 14 Division 1 league and cup, plus the under 16 league and cup. These honours belong to AK Utd before the merger; they are distinct from Askeaton AFC’s earlier trophy record.
Football today
Askeaton/Kilcornan AFC offers a route from nursery football through boys’ and girls’ age groups to youth, men’s and women’s football. Its affiliations cover the Limerick Desmond schoolboys and girls, junior and ladies leagues.
The September 2026 club reports cover girls’ and boys’ matches, youth cup football and two men’s sides. Team coverage under the old AK name here is incomplete and should not be treated as the combined club’s current squad list.

Red and black after the merger
The current club’s red and black colours come from Askeaton’s tradition. Its round badge carries the Askeaton Kilcornan name and 2023 date. A complete account of AK’s earlier badge and kit changes has not been confirmed.

The published Kilcornan ground address is Toreen, Kilcornan, County Limerick, V94 P623. The club also uses Páirc Eas Geitine in Ballymore, Askeaton, V94 39V0. Confirm which ground is hosting your match before travelling.
Kilcornan’s listed facilities include a full size pitch, an artificial surface and toilets. Askeaton has main and training pitches, an artificial surface, dressing rooms, showers, toilets and a kitchen area. Ask the host about parking and accessible routes.
