Ardmore Rovers FC

A community club founded in 1979, with a Cubs Academy, boys’ and girls’ football, senior teams and a broad DDSL pathway.

Club story

Built in Ardmore, Bray

Ardmore Rovers’ official history says Aidan and Eileen O’Donoghue and Shay Lynch founded the club in 1979 to provide football for children in the Ardmore area of Bray. The club grew quickly: its published account says it reached seven teams within a few years, beginning with age groups from Under 9 to Under 11.

That early purpose still shapes the public profile. The club describes itself as community based and says its aim is to provide a safe, friendly environment where children and young adults can enjoy football. Its constitution adds commitments to participation, equality and no discrimination.

Pathway

From Cubs to senior football

The official club page describes a Cubs Academy for children from age four. At around age seven, players move into the youngest of the club’s youth teams, with the published pathway running from U8 to U19 and two senior teams for adults. The same page says youth football from U8 to U18 is played in and around Dublin through the DDSL, while U19 football competes in the Leinster Senior League.

Ardmore’s development model is deliberately progressive: the club describes 5-a-side football for ages 7–9, 7-a-side at age 10, 9-a-side from age 12, and 11-a-side football from age 13. That gives younger players a smaller sided introduction before the full pitch game becomes the competitive focus.

Football setting

DDSL, SFAI and senior affiliations

Ardmore Rovers’ 2024 constitution lists affiliation to the SFAI, the Dublin & District Schoolboys’/Girls’ League, the Leinster Senior League and the Leinster Football League. The DDSL club profile confirms the name, official website link and registered maroon and white colours. The club’s public history also describes senior football alongside its youth programme, keeping the development route connected to adult football without collapsing the two into one competition.

League and competition details for individual teams can change by season, so the connected team and fixture modules remain the place to check current activity.

Venues

Bray venues, separated by use

The club’s official venue page lists Ballywaltrim Recreational Park on Southern Cross Road, St Killian’s Community School on School’s Road/Boghall Road, The Peoples Park on Lower Dargle Road and Wolfe Tone Community Centre on Vevay Road. Its history page gives a more specific weekly allocation: U8 and U9 home football at St Killian’s, with St Brendan’s, Ballywaltrim or The Peoples Park used for other teams.

That distinction matters on match day: the club’s address and its individual playing venues are not interchangeable. Check the fixture before travelling, especially where a team’s home venue differs from the clubhouse address.

Safeguarding and culture

A published Code of Practice

Ardmore Rovers says it adopted a Code of Practice with the FAI in 2004. The club’s account describes managers, helpers, coaches, players and parents signing up to the code, alongside parent and player contracts in the membership process. Its constitution also sets out registration rules for age groups and says players should play in their own year group unless an agreed exception applies.

These are useful signals for families comparing clubs: the published material describes not only football activity but also the adult supervision, registration and conduct framework around it.

Joining

Start with the official registration route

The current membership page separates Ardmore Rovers club membership from DDSL registration. It directs new members to the club’s online registration system, where a parent or guardian creates an account, adds a player and selects the appropriate team. The page also directs families to the DDSL registration route for league participation.

For questions about age groups, places, registration or a team manager, use the club’s general contact route. It publishes the Ballywaltrim clubhouse address. Do not rely on an old fixture listing for current availability.
