Avondale United began in Ballintemple in 1972. Known as the Dale, the club offers academy, youth and adult football, with boys and girls developing through its Cork programmes. Beaumont Park remains an important home for its young players.
From a kitchen meeting to national cups
The club’s own history traces its beginnings to Sycamore House in Ballintemple. The first meetings took place in the kitchen. One junior side grew into a club with youths from 1973/74 and schoolboys from 1974/75.
Avondale entered the Munster Senior League in 1977/78. It bought its Carrigaline ground in 1986 and also secured a lasting base at Beaumont Park through the Blackrock Community Association.
Eight Intermediate Cup wins
The club’s roll of honour records eight FAI Intermediate Cup victories: 1978, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2019. Four came in successive years between 2011 and 2014.
Avondale has also won the Munster Senior League Premier Division, beginning in 1988. Its FAI Senior Cup runs reached the quarter finals in 1995 and 2014. The linked honours record covers further league and cup achievements.
Learning the game and staying involved
The academy pathway starts with fun and basic skills at under 6 to under 9, develops coaching at under 10 and under 11, then leads into competitive football. The club identifies the Cork Schoolboys League and Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer League within that progression.
Adult football is part of the club’s wider programme. Its August 2026 women’s match update confirms continuing women’s football. Full squad coverage and available places have not been established; ask the club about the right group before registering.
Club identity
Sky blue and the sycamore leaf
The sycamore leaf in the badge remembers the house where the club began. Early red and white colours gave way to sky blue with dark shorts. The current academy kit range shows a sky blue shirt and socks with navy shorts.
Visiting Beaumont Park

The club’s 15 September 2026 announcement schedules an official Beaumont Park opening for Saturday 19 September, from 11am to noon. This is an announced event, not a completed opening.
Avondale Park in Carrigaline was sold in July 2026. The same report describes proposed grass and artificial pitches at Carrigrohane. Their completion has not been verified. Confirm the ground for every match instead of relying on an older Carrigaline address.
Beaumont’s grass pitch has undergone sanding and reseeding preparations. Ask about current changing rooms, toilets, parking and accessible entry when arranging a visit.
