Ballybofey United is a community football club at Dreenan in County Donegal. It took its present name in 1971, having begun as Finn Rovers. The blue and white club marked its fifty fifth anniversary with the formal opening of Dreenan Park in August 2026.
A home of their own
From Finn Rovers to Dreenan Park
United previously used Finn Valley for home football. The story of the move to Dreenan traces the project to conversations between Derek Roulstone, Seamus Lynch and Paul Doherty about twelve years before the opening.
Seamus Lynch cut the ribbon on 1 August 2026, with founder member Louie Reilly among those present. The club’s regular fundraising draw helped pay for the development.
The unbeaten double in 2017
United won Division Two before adding the Brian McCormick Cup in May 2017. Niall McCloskey scored in the 86th minute of the final at Dry Arch Park, giving Ballybofey a 1–0 win over Rathmullan Celtic.

Growing up with United
At the August 2026 opening, the club reported around 300 young players aged six to sixteen and two adult sides. Its June AGM update also identified a head coach for girls’ football.
The Donegal Junior League programme confirms Sunday Division One and Saturday Division Three football in September 2026. Full youth squad coverage, women’s provision and available places remain unconfirmed. Ask the club about the right group for a new player.

Blue and white
The O’Reilly’s club collection shows blue shirts with white details and a shield containing a football and 1971. Its ordering window was closed when checked, so contact United before arranging kit or training wear.
Visiting Dreenan Park

The newly opened grounds have two full size grass pitches, a training area and a clubhouse. An artificial training pitch was still a proposed development in the opening report.
Confirm the assigned pitch and entrance with the organiser. Parking, toilets, changing access and arrangements for visitors with limited mobility should be checked with the club before a first visit.
