Club story
From borrowed fields to one football home
Birdhill FC began in 1983 and spent much of its history moving between local fields. The club continued to field underage and junior teams while working towards a permanent base beside the railway line on the R445.
The club bought the site in 2012. Turning low lying ground into a sand based football surface became a long term community project, backed by volunteers, fundraising and grant support. By August 2026, the site contained an adult pitch, juvenile pitch, warm up area, dressing rooms, parking and toilets.
The official opening on 14 August 2026 brought the club’s history and future together. Founder Mick Redmond cut the ribbon, and FAI and local league representatives joined club officers and community supporters at the new grounds.
On the pitch, the club’s route covers girls and boys from under 6, along with adult women’s and men’s teams. The 2019 Nora Kennedy Cup and 2020/21 Division 2 title sit among the junior men’s recorded achievements, while the newer girls’ programme widens the entry point for future teams.
