Generations of football at Georgie O’Callaghan Park

Castleisland AFC has served the town since 1973. Based at Tonbwee, the club plays in the Kerry District League and Kerry Schoolboys/Girls League. Its current programme stretches from the youngest academy players to adult men’s football and competitive and social teams for women.

2026/27 pathway

A place to start and keep playing

The registration programme includes boys’ and girls’ academies from under-6 to under-9, older youth groups and senior football. Membership options distinguish women’s competitive football from over-18 social soccer. Ask the club which group suits your age and experience.

Membership

Check availability before registering

For 2026/27, academy membership is €55; listed under-10 to under-16 groups are €75, and under-17/18 boys are €85. Senior A/B membership is €145, with an eligible student option at €105. Women’s competitive membership is €85 and over-18 social soccer €65. The live portal currently marks under-10 and under-11 boys as full. Check again before paying, and ask about any separate training subs.

Joining and welfare

Contact the club and read its standards

General enquiries go to castleislandafc@yahoo.ie, published on the official club website. The players’ and parents’ code asks adults to encourage effort, respect officials and avoid conflicting touchline instructions. Ask for the current child welfare contact, training arrangements and team meeting point before your first session.

Club story

The people and place behind the club

The ground honours founder Georgie O’Callaghan, who spent 45 years developing soccer in Castleisland. Extratime’s account describes the 2019 Legends for a Legend event arranged to mark the park’s opening and remember his contribution after his death in 2018.

The venue also supports football beyond club fixtures. In July 2024, a KDYS and Garda community tournament brought around 160 young players and 16 teams to the pitch, across primary-school, under-15 and under-18 competitions.
