A South Kerry start in 2007
Iveragh United began when four parents met in May 2007 to see if South Kerry could support a soccer club for all ages. Sean Coffey, Caroline Cronin, Ann Landers and Alan Landers helped set that early plan in motion, at a time when Gaelic games still carried most of the local sporting weight.
The name was chosen with geography in mind. The club wanted children from Mountain Stage to Kelly’s Cross to feel that the team belonged to them, not only to one street or village. The red kit with white trim became the first visual identity, and the club moved from early coaching and invitational tournaments into league football in 2008.
Over-the-Water base in Cahersiveen
The club contact address is c/o Over-the-Water Sports Centre, Cahersiveen, Co. Kerry, and the same venue sits at the heart of the club story. Early sessions used the sports centre astro pitch, giving the new club a practical base while it found coaches, players and a match rhythm.

Academy, boys and girls football
The current pathway reaches from academy and U10 football into older boys teams, girls football and a senior side. That spread is important in a rural South Kerry setting, where a player may need one club to carry them from their first small-sided sessions into full youth and adult football.
The girls pathway has become part of the club’s identity rather than a side note. The club history places girls teams at 34 percent of membership after the restart, giving families a clear signal that girls football is part of the week-to-week club life.
Academy and U10 football give younger players an entry point before the older schoolboy and schoolgirl age groups.

The 2014 return and local volunteers
Iveragh’s early drive was interrupted by the recession, when coaches left the area for work and the club had to close. The return in 2014 is a major part of the modern identity: South Kerry parents and volunteers brought the football back, then pushed it into a wider pathway for boys, girls and adult players.
That local volunteer base still shapes the club. Sponsors in Cahersiveen and beyond have helped with shirts and running costs, and the club has also linked its community voice with Jigsaw and youth mental health support.
Kerry District League days
The adult side gives Iveragh United a Kerry District League presence beyond underage football. In 2024, the club won the Tommy Healy Cup against Killarney Athletic B at Mounthawk Park, giving the senior group a named local honour to sit beside the player pathway work.
The same season also brought a Division 2 decider with Asdee Rovers. Iveragh went into that final after finishing top with 24 points and the highest goals tally in the division, a sign of a senior team carrying South Kerry football into county competition.
