Woodlawn, Killarney, since 1965
A Kerry town football pathway
Killarney Athletic AFC brings boys, girls and senior football together at Woodlawn beside the Flesk.
Club story
Killarney football since 1965
Killarney Athletic AFC was founded in 1965 by Don Harrington, a Cork Garda stationed in Killarney who saw local youngsters playing soccer around the town.
The club first played in the Desmond League as a youth team, entered a junior team at the start of 1966 and became one of the founding clubs of the Kerry District League in the early 1970s.
Athletic also helped form the Kerry Schoolboys League in 1984, then opened its first coaching academy in 1992. That gives the club a clear line from street football and youth soccer into the academy, schoolboy, schoolgirl and senior game.
Home ground
Woodlawn beside the Flesk
The club’s home is Killarney Athletic Grounds at Woodlawn, Killarney, V93 XY79. The Flesk runs behind the ground, and the club history places two full size pitches at Woodlawn after the 1993 purchase of the site.
Before Woodlawn, Athletic used the Half Moon Field from 1965 to 1988 and then the Knockreer area. Those are part of the club story; visiting families should use the Woodlawn address for current club football unless the team message names another pitch.

Player pathway
Academy, boys and girls
The academy has been part of the club since 1992 and gives younger players a first route into organised football. The official membership route carries boys categories from U5 to U18 and girls categories from U5 to U16.
Recent camp notices put boys and girls sessions at Woodlawn for players from the early school years up to U13. Times and fees change, so families should use Clubforce and the club channels for the live registration detail.
The club’s history also places boys and girls teams across the U10 to U16 age groups. Parents should contact the club with the player’s year of birth, experience and preferred route before attending a session.
Senior football and sevens
A town club with adult football
Killarney Athletic is part of the Kerry District League at adult level as well as Kerry schoolboys and girls football. Senior A material from the club shows the Woodlawn pathway reaching into Kerry League and cup football.
The annual Killarney Credit Union seven a side tournament also keeps Woodlawn busy beyond league fixtures. The 2026 club page for the event names senior men, senior ladies, over 35 and underage categories, with all games based at Killarney Athletic AFC Grounds.
For adult women or senior ladies football outside the tournament, contact the club before travelling or registering so the right current route is clear.
Selected honours
The 2017 senior double
The strongest named senior milestone in the club’s own material is the 2017 Senior A double.
