Knocklyon United FC
Green-and-white hoops from South Dublin, with a long community story and youth football at its core.
Club identity
Knocklyon football since 1984
Knocklyon United was founded in 1984 by John Bates and John Mallon after local volunteers met to create a safe, friendly football club for children in the community. The inaugural under-10 and under-13 teams played from Delaford Park and both age groups won league trophies in the opening season, with the under-10s also taking a shield.
The club’s growth from four teams in 1987 to eighteen in 1991 created the base for a large South Dublin programme. The IYF record connects that community club with the DDSL for the 2026–2027 season.
Youth pathway
Football for children, families and players of all ages
Knocklyon United’s public channels include academy activity, camps, football-for-all information, coaching and membership. The club history describes a purpose that has stayed consistent since the beginning: provide football for as many local children as possible in a safe, welcoming setting.
Exact 2026–2027 teams, divisions and seasonal relationships remain in the native Teams module. That live record should be used for a current squad view rather than relying on the historical age groups from the founding seasons.
Colours and crest
Green and white hoops
The DDSL profile records green and white hoops as the club identity. The crest adds a red local building, a green-and-white football, a gold diagonal band and a ribbon carrying the Knocklyon United name, tying the mark to its South Dublin setting.
The enhanced crest preserves the shield, building, football and ribbon lettering while adding a polished three-dimensional finish. Native club and team cards can reuse the same canonical identity across fixtures, results and tables.
Local football base
Community pitches in South Dublin
The IYF record carries the Knocklyon United location as D06 A625, while the club’s published history identifies Delaford Park as the original playing base. Current match listings and club notices should be used for the named pitch and access instructions on each age-group fixture.
Families travelling to a match should check the live fixture card for date, kick-off, venue and any change of ground. The connected venue relationship is kept with the exact match rather than assumed from the club’s historic home.
Growth and honours
A volunteer story behind a large programme
Knocklyon United’s history credits the volunteers, coaches and committee members who expanded the club through the late 1980s and early 1990s. The opening teams’ league and shield successes established a culture of participation and achievement that continued as more local families joined.
The club’s current scale and competition record should be read through the native modules. Fixtures, results and standings provide the season-specific evidence for each squad without blending older honours into current table positions.
Community and joining
A practical route into local football
Knocklyon United publishes membership, academy, safeguarding, coaching, camps and football-for-all information through its current club channels. That combination gives families a route from early participation into organised boys’ and girls’ football as players develop.
Before joining, families should confirm current age-group places, fees, academy sessions, training times, safeguarding information and equipment requirements with the club. The live IYF teams, fixtures, results and standings connections then provide the current record for each registered team.
