Ballyvolane and Dublin Hill

Northside Cork football since 1986

Leeds A.F.C. gives Ballyvolane, Dublin Hill and wider Cork players a route from academy football into Cork Youth Leagues and Munster Senior League teams at Leeds Park.

A Cork club with a clear name

Leeds A.F.C. is the Cork soccer club based in Ballyvolane, not a reference to the English professional club. Official channels use Leeds AFC and Leeds AFC Cork, while the ground, crest and Cork football setting separate the club from namesakes.

John and Mary Buckley founded the club in 1986 to give organised football to young players from Ballyvolane, Dublin Hill and nearby northside areas. The name came from the Buckley family’s Leeds United connection, but the story is rooted in Cork community football.

From Kilbarry to Leeds Park

The club first played from Kilbarry on Dublin Hill before moving in 1988 to Leeds Park in Ballyvolane. The Leeds home covers six and a half acres, with two pitches, an all weather training area and dressing rooms for the club.

Families will also see the ground called Meelick Park in club contact details and older football listings. For match day, Leeds Park or Meelick Park points to the same Cork home; use T23 XW60 when a map or organiser asks for an Eircode.

Academy and underage football

The Leeds pathway starts with academy football and moves through age group teams coached at the club. That underage structure runs through Cork schoolboy and youth grades, giving families a familiar route from first football into competitive squads.

For parents, the shape is easy to understand: younger players can start close to home, and older players can aim for Cork league football under the same blue and white crest.

Senior football at Leeds Park

Adult football followed the schoolboy success. Leeds moved from junior football into the senior ranks of the Munster Senior League in 1997, then won the First Division and Pop Keller Cup in their second senior season.

Beamish Cup and Keane Cup wins soon added to the adult story. That senior layer gives the underage pathway a visible end point in Cork football, with Leeds Park linking academy, youth and adult teams under one club identity.

Football for all

Leeds has long described its local role in broad terms. Its football-for-all idea includes players of different abilities, with COPE teams using Leeds Park as a home football setting.

The club community has also pushed for more ladies and girls to have a place at Leeds. Families looking for girls’ or women’s entry points should use the official ClubZap contact route, because age groups and squad openings change by season.

Joining and visiting

For membership, academy questions, age group contact and match arrangements, start with the club’s official ClubZap site. It carries the current contact page, membership route, fixtures, results and club notices.

Visiting families should search for Leeds AFC at Meelick Park, Ballyvolane, then check the fixture note before travelling. The site has grass pitches and an all weather training area, so the team or coach message is still the best match day detail.
