Maree Oranmore FC across parish football
Maree Oranmore FC combines deep parish roots, a large boys and girls pathway, two practical football bases, safeguarding structure and modern facility development in Galway.
Maree Oranmore identity
Maree Oranmore FC is a Galway community football club serving the full Maree and Oranmore parish area. The crest brings local identity into one football badge, with the castle and well, a sailing and fishing symbol, a swan on the water, a tower, a football and a Maree / Oranmore FC ribbon.
The modern club is built from juvenile football, adult football and a 2012 merger that brought local strands together under one name. That gives families a single club route across boys, girls, youth, junior and community football.
The club colours and visual identity are blue and white, matching the coastal and parish symbols in the badge.

Juvenile roots from 2005
Maree Oranmore Juvenile Soccer Club began after public meetings in February and March 2005 to test local demand for children’s football. One meeting at the Oranmore Lodge Hotel attracted more than 100 parents.
Joe Broder helped start the idea and contacted local residents including Fr Adrian McGrath, Liam O Carroll, Tom Broderick and Martin Horgan. The first open day in April 2005 attracted more than 200 children, giving the parish a structured children’s football club.
By season 2011 to 2012, the juvenile club had teams from Under 6 to Under 18 and girls sides from Under 6 to Under 12, showing how quickly the early community idea grew.

Adult roots and 2012 merger
The adult football roots go back to Oranmore in 1989. Brendan Carney, Brendan Byrnes, Jan Van der Zee, Pat Sexton, Paul Cowell and Tom Broderick are named in the club timeline around that foundation.
Oranmore played Corofin United in its first competitive game on 9 September 1989 and lifted the Third Division Cup in 1991. The adult side later reached the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup in 1996 to 1997 and secured Galway and District League Premier Division promotion in 2006 to 2007.
In August 2012, the juvenile club merged with the Oranmore FC junior side and Oranbay 90 junior side to form the united Maree Oranmore FC identity.

Two main football locations
Maree Oranmore families should know the two practical football locations. The MOFC 4G Astro is at Caulfield Industrial Park, behind Maree Community Centre, with Eircode H91 V12C. Oranmore OCDA has the 3G Astro and grass pitches, with Eircode H91 72H3.
This two venue structure supports a large club. Match, training, academy, camp and event arrangements can move between Maree and Oranmore, so parents and visiting teams should check the exact pitch before travelling.
The 4G Astro also matters to the club story because it reflects a long facility development push and gives the club a modern football base in the Maree side of the parish.

Scale of the player pathway
Maree Oranmore FC operates on a large community scale. The safeguarding statement names football activity for children and young people from age 5 to 18, more than 100 volunteers and more than 680 participants.
The older club history also describes more than 450 children in regular weekend and midweek training, with volunteer teams coordinating activity and annual events for younger age groups.
That scale makes the club more than a single team. It is a parish pathway with entry points for young children, boys teams, girls teams, youth football, junior routes and community activity.
| Child age range | Age 5 to 18 |
|---|---|
| Participants | More than 680 |
| Volunteers | More than 100 |
| Historic training scale | More than 450 children |
| Pathway scope | Children, youth, girls, boys and junior football |
Girls and boys team depth
The current Galway underage footprint is broad. Boys routes include U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U21 football, with several B and C squad entries as the age groups deepen.
Girls routes include U12, U13, U14, U15 and U16 activity, including Premier, Championship and Division settings. That gives girls a visible pathway through several teenage age groups rather than a single isolated team.
The editorial story should stay steady while weekly match data changes elsewhere on the site. The durable point is that Maree Oranmore has one of the deeper mixed underage footprints in the Galway area.
| Boys route | U12 through U18 plus U21 |
|---|---|
| Girls route | U12 through U16 |
| Squad depth | A, B and C entries across several age groups |

Safeguarding and player welfare
Maree Oranmore FC sets out a child safeguarding structure aligned with FAI child welfare and safeguarding policy. The club states that the welfare and interests of children are paramount in all circumstances.
The club principles include the needs of the child, integrity and respect, environment, equality, fair play, welfare and safety in football. The risk areas reviewed include coaching practice, complaints and discipline, communications, recruitment, facilities and general harm risk.
For parents, named welfare contacts and a clear safeguarding statement are central to assessing the club. Ciara Stapleton is named as child welfare and child protection contact, with the chairperson acting as dedicated liaison person.
| Safeguarding route | Child safeguarding statement |
|---|---|
| Children’s activity | Age 5 to 18 |
| Welfare contact | Ciara Stapleton |
| Dedicated liaison | Chairperson |
| Core principles | Integrity, respect, equality, fair play, welfare and safety |
Committee and contact structure
The club contact structure is detailed, with separate routes for club secretary, co chairs, vice chair, registration, welfare, women and girls football, men and boys football, treasurer, marketing, events and office administration.
Niall McBride is named as secretary for men and boys, Brian Murray as secretary for women and girls, Brian Carey and Olivia Breene as co chairs, John Gillen as vice chair, and MOFC Registrations as the membership and registration contact.
This helps families direct enquiries without relying on a single inbox. A new player enquiry should include player age, gender pathway, current level, preferred venue and whether the question is about membership, training, welfare or team placement.

Facilities and community health
Facility development is a recurring part of the Maree Oranmore story. The 4G Astro at Caulfield Industrial Park gives the club a modern football base, while the OCDA site adds 3G and grass pitch options in Oranmore.
In December 2025, Maree Oranmore FC was named among Galway clubs receiving €25,000 through the Healthy Ireland Walking Tracks fund. That initiative supports safer community walking routes around club grounds and broadens the role of football facilities beyond match day.
For the local area, this means the club is part of a wider community health setting as well as a football setting.

Milestones and representative players
Maree Oranmore’s history includes youth, adult and representative milestones. The adult timeline includes the 1991 Third Division Cup, the FAI Junior Cup last 64 run in 1996 to 1997 and Premier Division promotion in 2006 to 2007.
The 2016 to 2017 season added two major notes: promotion back to Premier football and Matthew Barrett Folan becoming the club’s first full Ireland U18 international when he played against Wales.
Maree Oranmore also had a strong presence in the 2026 Galway District League squad for the Oscar Traynor Trophy Final, with Conor Winn, Liam Murray, Ify Asogu, Gerard O Riordan, Donnacha McNamara and Colm Whelan named in the squad.

Events, camps and community life
The club calendar is active beyond weekly football. Recent 2026 updates include 2026 to 2027 membership, a September AGM, an October table quiz, a summer camp, a Leeds linked summer camp and fundraising around a boys trip to Spain.
Those activities show a club that relies on community support as well as football operations. Fundraising, camps, member meetings and youth travel all sit beside the ordinary coaching and match programme.
For families, this is useful context: joining Maree Oranmore means entering a large football community with camps, events, volunteers and fundraising activity, not just a weekly training slot.
| Membership | 2026 to 2027 season |
|---|---|
| AGM | September 2026 |
| Community event | October table quiz |
| Camps | Summer football activity |
| Youth travel | Boys Spain trip fundraising |
First visit guidance
A first visit should start by confirming whether the activity is at the MOFC 4G Astro in Maree or at the OCDA 3G and grass pitches in Oranmore. The venues are close in club identity but different in travel detail.
New families should share the player age, gender pathway, previous experience, preferred football route and the reason for the enquiry. That helps the club direct the family to registration, coaching, welfare, boys football, girls football or junior football contacts.
The safest travel plan is to confirm the exact pitch, session time, footwear requirement and arrival point with the relevant contact before setting out.
