Town football at Dalton Park
Mullingar Town AFC connects 1894 heritage, red and black stripes, Dalton Park and underage football in the Westmeath county town.
Longstanding Westmeath club
Mullingar Town AFC is a County Westmeath football club with 1894 attached to its club identity. The club is based at Dalton Park and carries a red and black striped football identity.
That long history gives the club a different feel from a newly formed academy. Families are joining a town club whose name has carried local football, underage coaching and senior football across several generations.

Dalton Park match base
Dalton Park is the home ground used for Mullingar Town football. Local football material also uses D’Alton Park, so visiting teams should recognise both spellings when checking match messages.
The simplest match day plan is to confirm the entrance, pitch, parking and changing arrangements with the home coach. Training can also take place at a different time or location, so families should check their own team message.

Club role in Mullingar
Mullingar is a county town on the River Brosna and Royal Canal, with a long civic and sporting story. Mullingar Town AFC sits inside that local identity as a football club with town name, town colours and community volunteers behind it.
The club works as a vital local grassroots organisation, with volunteers and coaches bringing football to participants of different ages. That volunteer base is what turns Dalton Park from a venue into a club home.

Underage teams and coaching support
Recent community support for Mullingar Town included pitch signage, kit for underage players and coaching league jerseys for under 8, under 9 and under 10 squads. That points to a club with younger development below the visible league teams.
For a parent, the important step is to ask which group fits the child’s year of birth. The club can then confirm whether the player should start in academy, a younger coaching group or an NERL team.

NERL pathway in 2026
The current youth pathway includes boys teams in the North Eastern Regional League. The connected football includes under 13, under 14 and under 15 boys groups, with Dalton Park used in the regional match calendar.
Those teams show the club reaching beyond Westmeath into Meath and Louth youth football. Families should still contact Mullingar Town directly because the visible teams may not describe every group at the club.

Academy launch and older players
Mullingar Town’s newer generation was connected with a schoolboys academy launch during a November 2023 club reunion. That launch sat beside former players from earlier trophy winning teams, linking past and present in one club setting.
For young players, that matters because the club story is not only about old photographs. It shows a pathway where today’s academy and youth players can see themselves as part of a longer Mullingar Town line.

Historic cup groups reunited
The Glen Abbey Cup winners of 1973 and Counties Cup winners of 1978 came together at Mullingar Arts Centre in November 2023. Both trophies were on show, giving the newer generation a direct link to earlier club success.
Those gatherings matter because they keep club memory alive. They also help younger families understand why a long running town club means more than a current season schedule.

FAI Junior Cup area success
Mullingar Town also has a notable Midlands Area FAI Junior Cup chapter. Jim Moore is credited with helping the club win the Midlands Area in 1986 and 1987.
Those were area successes, rather than national FAI Junior Cup titles, but they remain important in the club’s competitive story because they show Mullingar Town making an impact beyond ordinary local league football.

League of Ireland under 21 chapter
In the early 2000s, Jim and Martin Moore pursued a League of Ireland First Division place for Mullingar Town. Sixteen players arrived from the London Soccer Academy with manager Leroy Rhodes while the senior application was considered.
Kildare County received the First Division place in February 2002, but Mullingar Town continued in under 21 football. The club reached two FAI Under 21 Cup semi finals before leaving when the competition moved to under 20 football ahead of 2008.

Senior title in 2025
Mullingar Town secured the Combined Counties Football League Division 1 title in May 2025 with a seven to two win over Ballymahon at Dalton Park. Captain Jamie Loran scored a hat trick in the decisive game.
The title had briefly seemed settled earlier before a points calculation issue kept the race open. The Dalton Park win settled it properly, with Mark Brady and Jason McGrath managing the side.

Home and away kit
The home kit is red and black striped jersey, black shorts and black socks. The away jersey is white with red and black stripes, again with black shorts and black socks.
The senior side has also used an orange third kit, but visiting teams should confirm colours before travelling because the usual red and black stripe can clash with several dark kits.

What the crest carries
The Mullingar Town shield carries several town symbols: a red lion, castle tower, flag, wall blocks, blue waves, white zigzags, yellow crown and yellow ribbon. The motto ribbon reads Sigillum Commune De Molinge.
That makes the crest more civic than a standard football badge. It ties the club identity to Mullingar’s older town story as well as the football played at Dalton Park.

First visit checklist
For a first visit, confirm whether the session is at Dalton Park and ask for the exact meeting point. Arrive early enough to park, find the coach and let the player settle before warm up.
Bring boots suited to the assigned surface, shin guards, water and weather gear. Ask about registration, fees, parent standing areas and whether the first session is a trial or a normal training night.

| Bring | Boots, shin guards, water and weather gear |
| Ask about | Registration and fees |

Away team guide
Away teams should confirm Dalton Park, the entrance, parking, pitch allocation, changing arrangements and warm up area before leaving. That is especially useful when travelling from Meath or Louth for NERL football.
Coaches should agree kit colours in advance and keep the home contact handy if weather changes the plan. The red and black home jersey is distinctive, but clashes are still possible.
