A red and black Thurles pathway

Peake Villa connects a 1967 Dualla origin, a Thurles home, schoolboys and schoolgirls football, junior teams and Football for All.

Peake Villa identity

Peake Villa FC is a Thurles football club with a red and black identity and a foundation date of 1967. The badge carries the Peake Villa F.C. name, a red and black shirt, a football and the Founded 1967 mark.

The club is tied to Loughtagalla, Bowling Green in Thurles and plays a full role in Tipperary football. Its public football pathway reaches schoolboys, schoolgirls, youth teams, junior football and Football for All activity.

Dualla roots and the Thurles relaunch

Peake Villa began in Dualla, County Tipperary in 1967. John Walshe, Matthew Ryan, Willie Moloney and Jim McEntee were founder members, with three coming from Boherlahan and one from Thurles.

The Peake Villa name came from the local townland of Peake near Gaile, Thurles. Jerry Quigley of Cabragh was the first player to sign and play, and the Aston Villa link came through the Quigley family friendship with Ron Saunders.

The early side played in the old Tipperary County Junior League Division 2 in 1967/68, finished runners up and also entered a youth team. After a break, John Walshe moved the football work into Thurles and a 1970 meeting created a committee that included John Walsh, Tommy Harris, Johnny O’Dwyer, Jimmy Cleary, Noel McGuigan, Joe O’Grady and John Butler.

Loughtagalla and Bowling Green home

The practical home for Peake Villa is Loughtagalla at Bowling Green in Thurles. For parents and visiting teams, that is the first place to confirm when checking match or training arrangements for a Peake Villa team.

The club contact detail attached to the Thurles base names Liam Kelly and gives secretary@peakevillafc.com as the club email. A first visit should still be confirmed with the coach or secretary because age group times, pitch use and arrival plans can change through the season.

League pathway and club structure

Peake Villa is connected with the Tipperary Southern District League and the South Tipperary School Boys and Girls League. That combination gives the club a local competition route for both adult and underage football.

The club’s history includes junior league football, youth competitions, schoolboys football and schoolgirls football. The strongest way to read the Peake Villa pathway is as a Thurles based football ladder rather than a single adult team.

Schoolboys, schoolgirls and youth football

Peake Villa’s underage story became part of its identity early. The first underage team entered the South Tipperary Schoolboys and Girls League at under 12 level and won the under 12 cup that season under Pat Kelly.

The schoolgirls section was established in September 2013 after a Peake Villa girl who had played with boys was called to represent Ireland at under 15 level. That moment shows why the girls pathway is part of the club story rather than an add on.

For a new family, the useful question is the player’s year of birth and the correct Peake Villa group for the season. The club pathway can include academy style entry, school age football, older youth football and junior football, so checking the age group first saves confusion.

Football for All at Peake Villa

Peake Villa added a Football for All strand in 2023. The programme was launched in April 2023, supported by the FAI Football For All Department and built around inclusive football activity at the club.

The preparation included a disability awareness workshop with new Football for All coaches at Peake Villa. An opening day followed in September 2023, and continued support was planned so players and families had a clearer route into inclusive football in Thurles.

Honours and competitive milestones

The club’s adult rise included three quick league steps in the mid 1980s, with Division 4 in 1984/85, Division 3 in 1985/86 and Division 2 in 1986/87. Later Peake Villa won the Junior Premier in 2000/01 and 2009/10.

Cup honours include the Junior Challenge Cup in 2000/01 and 2012/13. In 2017/18, Peake Villa reached the FAI under 17 Challenge Cup semi final after wins over Bohemians of Waterford, Drogheda Boys, Manulla and Springfield Ramblers, before the run ended against Corduff.

Committee, contact and club operations

Peake Villa has always depended on local organisers as well as players. The relaunch into Thurles was built through a committee meeting around 1970, and that volunteer habit still matters for teams, welfare, coaching, match days and ground routines.

For a practical enquiry, use the club email, the team coach or the club’s current social channels to confirm the correct contact. Parents should include the player year of birth, football background, preferred role, home area and whether the question relates to boys, girls, youth, junior, Football for All, coaching or volunteering.

First visit checklist

Before travelling to Peake Villa, confirm the team name, age group, coach contact, day, arrival time, footwear, registration status and whether the session is at Loughtagalla, Bowling Green or another agreed venue.

A visiting team should confirm parking, dressing room arrangements, pitch allocation, referee or match contact and any warm up instructions. A new player should ask what to bring, whether a parent should stay for the first session and which message group or registration route applies after the first contact.
