Village football from academy to adult teams
St Anthonys Kilcoole FC brings together the Kilcoole United and St Anthonys Schoolboys traditions, with girls, boys and adult football around Finn Park and Dermot Wheeler Park.
Club identity
St Anthonys Kilcoole FC
St Anthonys Kilcoole FC is a County Wicklow club whose modern identity comes from the 1991 amalgamation of Kilcoole United AFC and St Anthonys Schoolboys. The club history records Kilcoole United starting in 1971 and St Anthonys Schoolboys developing its own strong underage record before the merger.
The club now describes almost 400 members, football from academy age through to senior level and an over 35 side. Its crest carries the St Anthony’s and Kilcoole wording, the football, bird mark, F and C letters and the Girls & Boy’s text.
St Anthonys appears in Wicklow and Dublin competition records, with the WDSL profile listing Finn Park and DDSL pages also carrying the Kilcoole name.
Home grounds
Finn Park and Dermot Wheeler Park
Finn Park on Lott Lane, Knockroe, Kilcoole is the main club home and the WDSL venue record. The club history says Finn Park is named in honour of club founder Jimmy Finn.
Dermot Wheeler Park is also part of the club’s football footprint, especially for younger and small sided football. The club history names Dermot Wheeler Park after a former schoolboy footballer and also mentions extra underage pitches and an astroturf surface.
Visitors should confirm the named ground before travelling, because Finn Park and Dermot Wheeler Park can both appear in Kilcoole football arrangements.
Pathway
Academy, youth and adult football
The current club overview describes an academy for boys and girls aged four to six, teams from U8 to senior level and an over 35 side. That makes the club more than a single youth team listing.

History
Kilcoole United and St Anthonys Schoolboys
Kilcoole United began in 1971 through Jimmy Finn, Jerry Whelan and Paul Gammell. The club history records Willie Gormley scoring its first goal in a 2-0 away win over Greystones, followed by a GIFF Cup final appearance a year later.
St Anthonys Schoolboys developed separately through Kevin Cosgrave, Eugene Green, Brian Hughes and Robert Finnegan. The club history says St Anthonys won more than 25 cups and shields across Wicklow and Dublin leagues in the five years before 1980, with a 1977-78 U9 side winning its league without conceding a goal.
The merged club began with four teams in 1991 and later expanded through more age groups, girls teams and adult football.
Honours and milestones
League titles, cup runs and girls football growth
The club history records Kilcoole United honours including the 1980-81 Division 2A title, 1984-85 GIFF Cup, 1985-86 Wicklow Cup, 1986-87 Premier Shield and a 1988-89 Division 1 and Lacey Cup double.
Local reporting also recorded St Anthonys as Division 1 champions in 2012. More recent WDSL coverage in 2026 described a new girls team making its first competitive appearance at Finn Park.
The club held its first all girls open day in February 2022 and then entered a girls side in Dublin competition that September. Those steps are important to the club story because they show the girls pathway moving from recruitment into competitive football.
Competition routes
Wicklow and Dublin league football
The club says teams compete in the Wicklow and Dublin leagues. WDSL pages list St Anthonys at Finn Park, and DDSL competition records also show Kilcoole teams.
Adult sides have appeared in the Wicklow and District Football League and the Amateur Football League. For players and visitors, the league source matters because it can decide venue, kickoff time and competition rules.
Visitors
Before travelling to Kilcoole
Check whether the fixture is at Finn Park, Dermot Wheeler Park or another assigned ground. Confirm the surface, entrance, parking, kickoff and meeting point with the team or league listing.
Players should bring boots suited to the surface, shin guards, water and clothing for Wicklow coastal weather. Parents of younger players should confirm drop off and collection arrangements before training or matches.
