A complete Dublin 9 football pathway

St Kevin’s FC combines a 1959 foundation with academy coaching, boys’ and girls’ teams, and senior football across several north Dublin grounds.

Club story

Growing from one team since 1959

Fr Desmond Williams, later Bishop Desmond Williams, founded the club in 1959. The official history describes growth from one team to more than forty teams across ages and standards, involving close to one thousand players and a large volunteer coaching group.

The tangerine and black colours, the year 1959 and the central Celtic cross remain the core identity. The historic name was St Kevin’s Boys Club. In 2023 the organisation became St Kevin’s Football Club when girls’ football was introduced, so the name now reflects the wider programme.

The current crest uses “Football Club” wording. The older “Boys Club Dublin” badge remains part of the history but should not be used as if it were the present identity.

Player pathway

Little Saints, youth teams and senior football

The Little Saints coaching academy gives young beginners an organised introduction to the ball and the club environment. From there, the wider programme includes many boys’ and girls’ teams at different levels. The club website publishes a substantial current fixture list, showing that one age group can contain several squads rather than a single team.

Two senior teams compete in the Leinster Senior League, providing an adult continuation beyond youth football. That does not mean every youth player follows one fixed route, but it does place senior community football within the same organisation.

For a useful first message: include the player’s birth year, whether they are seeking boys’ or girls’ football, their recent experience and preferred position. Ask which squad has space and where that exact squad trains.

Football achievement

National cups and an international tournament

The official history records numerous DDSL league and cup honours and several SFAI Cup successes. It highlights the 2017 season, when St Kevin’s won four of the five available SFAI Cups. Those trophies were earned by particular age group teams, while the wider club also supported many squads at other standards.

The Academy Cup began in 2009, the club’s fiftieth anniversary year, as an international under 13 tournament. Participants over time included Barcelona, Arsenal, Ajax, Celtic, Benfica and Real Madrid among other European academies. The tournament stopped during the pandemic; the official account treats a future return as a possibility, not a confirmed annual event.

Facilities and grounds

Shanowen Road, St Aidan’s, Ellenfield and Ward Cross

The main complex at Shanowen Road includes eight dressing rooms, meeting and coaching rooms, a gym, treatment space, indoor and outdoor all weather areas and the main club pitch. The St Aidan’s facility adds a full size floodlit all weather pitch, while Ellenfield and Ward Cross also appear in the club’s current ground network.

These locations are not interchangeable. The current fixture list may show Shanowen Road, St Aidan’s, Ellenfield, Ward Cross or another assigned ground. Families and visiting teams should follow the exact venue on the newest notice.

Match day

Read the weekly pitch information

The club publishes weekly pitch and fixture updates because a programme of this size cannot be understood from one map. Check the team name, age group, date, kickoff, surface and venue together. Similar squad labels may refer to different teams within the same age group.

Players should arrive with boots suited to the confirmed surface, shin guards, water and weather appropriate clothing. Parents of young players should know the named coach and collection point. Visiting teams should allow time to find the correct entrance at the assigned ground.

Joining and club contact

Use the current St Kevin’s channels

The official website carries current fixtures, results, pitch notices and club news. Facebook and Instagram provide further updates. Recruitment, trial and registration positions can change by squad, so an old post should not be treated as an open invitation.
