A Tallaght club built around community
Founded in 1968, Saint Maelruans FC provides boys’ and girls’ football at Bancroft Park with a volunteer led pathway through the youth years.
Club story
Built locally in 1968
The club credits Liam Perry and members of the Tallaght community with its foundation in 1968. Volunteer coaches and support staff remain central to how the club operates, making the present programme a continuation of that local beginning rather than a separate modern project.
The tower on the maroon and sky blue crest gives Saint Maelruans a clear identity. The badge used in league records also marks the club’s fiftieth anniversary, connecting the 1968 foundation with the Tallaght club that reached that milestone in 2018.
Bancroft Park became the club’s base in 2003. The move gave Saint Maelruans a settled home for training, matches and club activity while Brady’s Field continued to appear in home fixture information.
Current pathway
Academy football through the older youth groups
The official membership information presents an academy followed by teams from under 8 through under 15, with an under 18 group also shown. The club says it supports boys and girls of different ages and skill levels. That is stronger evidence than treating a handful of fixture records as the whole programme.
The published training notice describes Tuesday and Thursday sessions, while weekend matches can fall on Saturday or Sunday. Those details are useful for understanding the usual rhythm of the club, but families should still confirm the current time because daylight, pitch access and the season can change the arrangement.
Coaching and facilities
A volunteer programme with club space
Saint Maelruans describes volunteer coaching and support staff as essential to keeping the club running. Its clubhouse includes a small gym used by members and coaches to support player strength. That facility sits alongside the outdoor football programme rather than replacing regular team coaching.
Parents should ask about the named coach, the appropriate footwear for the surface, shin guards, membership and the collection point. Anyone offering to volunteer should use the official club route so that the correct safeguarding and coaching process can be followed.
Home grounds
Bancroft Park and Brady’s Field
Home football is associated with Bancroft Park and Brady’s Field in Tallaght. Bancroft Park is the main club base named on the official website, while the fixture information says home games can use either location.
Visiting teams should not assume that a general club map identifies the match pitch. Check the newest fixture, confirm the entrance and arrive early enough to find the correct playing area. Grass and all weather arrangements may also require different footwear.
Joining and updates
Use the official Saint Maelruans channels
The club website carries history, membership, training and venue information. Facebook and Instagram provide more immediate notices. A first contact should identify the player clearly and ask for the current coach rather than relying on an old age label.
