Village football beside the Curragh
Suncroft AFC brings children, young players and adult footballers together in this County Kildare community. Its home is Suncroft Community Grounds, with a club story stretching from youth league honours to two Kildare senior championships.
For families arranging a first session or visiting for a match, start with the right age group and confirm the pitch with the team contact.
The club’s story
From 1977 to county championships
Suncroft dates its foundation to 1977, the year carried on its red, green and gold crest. A sun, football, woven cross and pitch outline give the badge its distinctive identity.
The adult team won the KDFL Premier Division in 2015, followed by Senior Division championships in 2017 and 2019. Its 2017 season also brought the League Cup; another League Cup and the Senior Division Cup followed in 2018.
The KDFL honours archive records earlier League Cup victories in 1994/95 and 2000/01. More recently, Suncroft won the Senior–Premier Shield in 2025 and finished runner-up in that year’s Division 3 Cup.
Youth achievements
Suncroft won the KDFL Youths Division in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012; the last two entries are marked under 19. The 2008 youth cup victory is recorded as under 17, with another youth cup win in 2011. These belong to the club’s youth history, separate from its senior titles.
Finding a team
Young players and adult football
The club’s football programme includes a youth academy and senior teams. The connected Irish Youth Football records include KDUL squads at under 9, under 12, under 15 and under 17 for 2026–2027. This is not a complete membership list, and a listed team does not establish that places are available.
Squad names such as A, B, red and white distinguish different groups. When enquiring, give the player’s year of birth and ask which coach and squad to contact. Do not choose a group from the club name alone.
KDUL covers the linked underage records. The separate KDFL 2025 structure included Suncroft in the Premier Division, Division 3 and under 20 Premier Division. Those are dated league entries, not a promise of the same divisions this season.
Parents enquiring for a girl or a new beginner should ask about the current suitable group, training arrangements and registration requirements. Confirm age eligibility with the club rather than calculating it from the current calendar year.

Check the fixture notice for the pitch and arrival time before travelling. Ask the host about parking, changing rooms, toilets and step-free access if these affect your visit; do not assume every community facility is open for every match.
For a child’s first session, agree the meeting and collection point with the coach. Bring drinking water and weather-appropriate clothing, and check the required footwear and shin guards in advance.
Joining and club contact
Arrange a first session
Start with the Suncroft AFC website or the club’s Facebook page. A parent or guardian should make the initial enquiry for a child. Include the player’s year of birth, previous experience and the type of football they are looking for.
Ask about places, training days, fees, registration and the club’s child welfare contact. Wait for confirmation from the team before attending or paying for kit. The official O’Neills club shop offers Suncroft clothing, but the coach can confirm the items needed for that squad.
Visiting team officials who need a club contact can use the KDFL contact request form. Match arrangements should be confirmed directly between the clubs.
