Tralee Dynamos is based at Cahermoneen in Tralee, County Kerry. Its red and black identity, national youth cup success and long connection with Kerry football sit alongside a growing home for young players, including the artificial pitch opened in November 2025.
History and honours
A place in Kerry football history
The club crest carries 1961. The published historical record also notes a conflicting reference to Dynamos in the Desmond League’s 1955 founding season, so the earlier reference should not be treated as a settled founding date.
Dynamos won the Murphy Cup in 1967 and became a founding member of the Kerry District League in 1971. Its recorded league wins include the inaugural championship and six successive titles from 1989/90 to 1994/95.
The 1997/98 FAI Youth Cup brought national success with a 2–1 final win over Stella Maris. The team included Derek O’Brien. Dynamos subsequently competed in the Munster Senior League, the A Championship and the national under 19 league.
| Competition or milestone | Recorded achievement |
|---|---|
| Kerry District League | 16 recorded titles, from 1971/72 to 2014/15 |
| FAI Youth Cup | 1997/98 winners |
| FAI Cup | Fourth round in 2009 |
These are documented historical achievements rather than a verified complete honours total for September 2026.
Youth football
Boys, girls and the first years of football
The club’s own reports show football for younger children and competitive boys’ and girls’ teams. Its March 2026 under 8 games with Camp Juniors took place on the Low Field. Earlier reports cover under 13 girls’ football and under 13 boys’ league matches.
For current competitions, consult the Kerry Schoolboys and Girls League. The club reported 27 teams at the 2025 pitch opening; that is a dated figure, not a confirmed squad count for this season.
Irish Youth Football’s connected teams and match records may not include every Dynamos squad. A complete current age group list, senior women’s programme, training schedule and inclusive football provision have not been independently confirmed. Contact the club for the right team and available places.
Colours and badge
Red, black and the horse and rider
The badge published by the Kerry youth league shows a horse and rider on a red centre, surrounded by a black ring with the club name and 1961. Red and black also appear in the club’s own match announcements.
The header illustration combines those colours and the crest with a view informed by photographs of the new pitch. It is not an unaltered ground photograph or official current shirt design. Confirm the required playing and training kit with the club before buying, including any separate requirements for goalkeepers.
Visiting the ground
Cahermoneen
The club’s home is at Cahermoneen in Tralee. The new artificial pitch was opened by Tim Counihan on 22 November 2025 and named in his honour. The project followed several years of fundraising, with member contributions and Sports Capital support.
At the opening, floodlights were described as a further step. Their completion has not been verified here. Confirm the pitch allocated to your match, the entrance and the latest kick off time with the club. Ask about parking, accessible arrival, toilet access, changing space and shelter before your visit.
Tralee Dynamos and nearby Mounthawk Park should not be treated as interchangeable destinations. Follow your team’s confirmed ground instructions.
