Football beside the Tramore River
Tramore Athletic is a Cork football club with schoolboy roots, national cup honours and a home at Tramore Park on South Douglas Road. Its name connects Douglas, Turners Cross and Blackrock, the neighbourhoods that supplied its founders. The club’s 2026/27 membership programme stretches from academy football through youth and adult teams to over 35s.
Young players
Academy to youth football
The current membership list includes the academy, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U17 and U18. Cork Youth Leagues also lists Tramore Athletic at U17 and U18 in September 2026.
The schoolboy teams on IYF cover U10 to U15. Academy entry ages, training times, places and any girls’ or mixed provision should be confirmed with the club; the membership labels do not establish those details.
Adult football
Juniors and over 35s
Junior and O35 memberships are available for 2026/27. Adult junior football is a competition grade, separate from the club’s children’s teams.
The Munster Senior League’s Junior 2nd Division record covers the adult side’s 2025/26 campaign. Check the club’s current notices for this season’s squad and division.
Club story
From a schoolboy team to national cup winners
Tramore Athletic’s own history gives 1948 as the founding year, following a break from Evergreen United. The founders met at O’Connell’s Corner House in Turners Cross and chose the Tramore River as a name shared by their three neighbourhoods.
An earlier club history traces the first organising meetings and league entry to 1947. The current website and crest use 1948. The club became a founding member of the Cork Schoolboys League and won its first trophy, an U14 league title, in 1954.
AUL division titles followed in 1956/57 and 1957/58. In 1958, Tramore beat Johnville of Dublin 2–0 at Turners Cross to win the FAI Youth Cup. The club joined the Munster Senior League in 1959, creating a further step for players leaving youth football.
The next national youth victories came against Home Farm in 1980 and Athlone Town in 1982. Dave Barry and Kieran O’Regan were part of the 1980 team; O’Regan also scored in the 3–0 win in 1982. Tramore’s adult teams reached seven FAI Intermediate Cup finals and won three.
Youth honours
Three FAI Youth Cups
- 1957/58: winners against Johnville.
- 1979/80: winners against Home Farm.
- 1981/82: winners against Athlone Town.
The FAI’s archived roll of honour also records Tramore as runners up in 1961/62 and 1976/77.
These are youth achievements, distinct from the adult Intermediate Cup record.
Adult honours
Intermediate cups and league titles
The Intermediate Cup record lists wins in 1978/79, 1980/81 and 1986/87, against Swilly Rovers, Ballyfermot United and Bank Rovers respectively. Tramore were runners up in 1966/67, 1979/80, 1981/82 and 1987/88.
The club reports four Munster Senior League titles. The published honours summary dates them to 1966/67, 1973/74, 1988/89 and 1989/90, and records Munster Senior Cup final appearances in 1980/81 and 1989/90.
Players from the club
A place in Cork football history
The club’s historical account remembers Frankie McCarthy, Noel O’Mahony, Dave Barry and Kieran O’Regan among its former players. It records McCarthy’s schoolboy international appearance in 1955 and O’Regan’s first senior Ireland cap in 1984.
Brentford’s profile of Chiedozie Ogbene confirms that he also played schoolboy football for Tramore Athletic, alongside Gaelic football with nearby Nemo Rangers.
Club colours
Maroon, gold and the TAFC shield
The club crest combines maroon and gold panels, the initials TAFC and a ribbon marked “Founded 1948”. The badge displayed here comes from Tramore’s Munster Senior League profile.
The Tramore Athletic club shop carries training jerseys, shorts, socks and outerwear. Check the club’s instructions before ordering a player’s kit; an away strip has not been confirmed here.
Home ground
Visiting Tramore Park
South Douglas Road, Douglas, Cork
T12 R26N
The club’s contact page confirms this address. A December 2020 report on the ground upgrade describes two grass pitches, a clubhouse, a car park and a new 60 × 30 metre artificial training pitch with floodlights, a shockpad and ball stop netting.
The report says the car park was also used by a local school. Check arrival arrangements with the home team, keep access clear and confirm the pitch and kick off time before travelling.
Step free access, accessible toilets, spectator shelter and refreshments have not been confirmed. Contact the club beforehand if you need a particular facility.

Teams, fixtures and results on IYF
The connected records below cover CSL ages U10–U15 for 2026/27. Some U15 entries repeat the same division, so eight records should not be read as eight separate squads. Academy, U17, U18, adult and over 35s coverage is incomplete. For youth football beyond the linked ages, check Cork Youth Leagues. Match times and venues can change; confirm the latest club or league notice before travel.
