From Waterford Glass to Crystal Pairc
The club began as Waterford Glass in 1971, with early support from the nearby glassworks and its sports complex at Ballinaneesagh. It entered the Waterford Junior League’s Third Division, reached the local Premier League by 1977–78 and established a schoolboy section during the 1980s. The club records its first schoolboy league title with the U11B side in 1989. Club history.
The senior side’s most prominent cup achievements include the 1995–96 Munster Senior Cup and the 2005–06 FAI Junior Cup. In the latter final, Crystal beat Westport United 1–0 after extra time. Those are senior honours, distinct from the club’s youth record: its U16 side won the Barry Cup in 2005–06, and the club records an unbeaten league title for its U14 girls in 2024. The U17B side also won its league in 2024. Club honours.
After the Waterford Crystal plant closed in 2009, the club left Ballinaneesagh and spent a period using the Regional Sports Centre. It moved to its present Kilbarry home in 2018. An AstroTurf facility opened there in 2023, giving the academy and other groups a year-round training space. The move to Kilbarry.
A route through the age groups
The academy introduces boys and girls aged roughly five to nine to the game. The club describes schoolboy groups from U10 through U16, with current youth fixtures on its own site for U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15 in the Waterford schoolboy competition. Age-group listings are not interchangeable team identities: each season’s squad and league entry must be confirmed separately before fixtures are attached to an IYF team page. Explore the club’s teams and current fixtures.
The club also describes an U17 development side and adult teams in the Waterford Junior League. Its 2024 youth honours illustrate both the girls’ and boys’ pathways, but senior matches and honours are kept separate from this youth-football directory. For joining enquiries, use the club’s official contact form; availability and training arrangements should be confirmed with the relevant age-group coordinator.
