Cork schoolboy football since 1948

Local roots, shared colours

Club competitions and representative football connect young players across Cork’s schoolboy game.

The association

Part of Cork football since 1948

Cork Schoolboys League, known as the CSL, dates from 1948. Its competitions connect schoolboy teams across Cork, with an official club directory, match information and representative squads forming different parts of the league’s work.

Cork has several distinct football organisations. The CSL should be identified separately from Cork Youth Leagues, Cork Women’s and Schoolgirls Soccer League and the adult leagues. A club may take part in more than one organisation through different teams, so the team’s age group and competition are useful starting points for any enquiry.

Club football

Following the right team

The CSL’s published programme includes age-group leagues with Premier and numbered divisions, alongside cup football. Its website separates competitions, fixtures, results, venues and club contacts so families and team officials can follow the relevant part of the programme.

A club’s name alone may not identify the team you need. Check the age group, division and team suffix before arranging a visit or discussing a result. For joining, training and registration, contact the club first; those arrangements belong to the club and its team officials.

Representative achievement

The Kennedy Cup returned in 2022

Cork Schoolboys League won the 2022 Kennedy Cup at the University of Limerick, defeating Waterford 2–0 in the under-14 final. It was Cork’s fourth title in the competition and its first since 1989, following earlier victories in 1977 and 1986.

The 2022 squad won its group before beating Donegal in the quarter-final and Wexford in the semi-final. Players from several Cork clubs shared that success in league colours. The trophy belongs to the CSL representative side, rather than to any single club in the league.

Beyond the weekly match

Coming together as a Cork squad

Representative football gives players from different clubs the chance to train and compete together. The CSL’s 2025 Kennedy Cup squad drew players from eleven clubs, with preparation extending beyond individual club schedules to a shared tournament programme.

That 2025 squad travelled to Limerick for the national tournament and faced Limerick County and Kildare in its group. It illustrates the distinction between a league representative team and a club team: players retain their own club backgrounds while representing the wider schoolboy league.

Contacts and welfare

Use the league’s published routes

The CSL contact directory separates the honorary secretary, children’s officer and other committee roles. Use that directory for a league enquiry, and the club-contact section for a question about a particular team or local training arrangement.

The official site also provides a referee-information section. For a competition query, provide the age group, division, clubs and match date. For a welfare concern, use the published children’s-officer route rather than treating it as a routine fixture question.
