Local clubs, Kerry pride
Boys’ and girls’ competitions bring communities together under the league’s green-and-gold colours.
The association
School-age football across Kerry
Kerry Schoolboys/Girls League organises the school-age game through local clubs across the county. The association is commonly shortened to KSBGL, and its crest combines the county’s green and gold with footballs, a crown, trees and a harp.
Its identity is distinct from the Kerry District League. Killarney Celtic’s description of its own pathway illustrates the difference: its under-12 to under-16 teams play in the schoolboys/girls programme, while its older youth and adult sides compete in the district league. Always check the organiser as well as the club name when following a team.
The club programme
Age groups and alternating weekends
The official league website separates boys’ and girls’ competitions, with Premier and divisional sections by age group. Its 2026/2027 season archive includes under-12, under-14 and under-16 fixtures, while weekly September reports distinguish even-age and odd-age rounds.
That alternating pattern is also described by Killarney Celtic for its under-12 to under-16 teams. It helps explain why different teams at one club may have different match weekends. For a particular fixture, use the published date and confirm arrangements with the team rather than relying on the usual pattern.
Association honours
Kennedy Cup glory in 2015
Kerry won the 2015 Kennedy Cup at the University of Limerick, defeating the Dublin District Schoolboy League 1–0 in the final. A goal before half-time proved decisive, and Kerry conceded only once across the tournament.
The victorious representative squad drew players from clubs including Killarney Celtic, Mastergeeha, St Brendan’s Park, Killorglin, Camp Juniors and Listowel Celtic. It was a shared county achievement, adding a national title to the association’s story while those players continued to belong to their own local football communities.
For families and volunteers
Joining, support and welfare
A local club is the first contact for joining, training times, age eligibility and team arrangements. The league website is the place to follow competition information and its public notices, with boys’ and girls’ sections kept separate for easier navigation.
KSBGL also maintains a Child welfare section. It links to material for parents, mentors and spectators, alongside FAI safeguarding resources. Follow those official links for the published documents, and ask your club for its designated welfare contact when you need help with a concern.
