Torro United first operated from 1970 to 1973 and returned for the 1985–1986 season. Its first youth team was an under 17 side in 1986–1987, when the senior side also won Division 4B.
The club won the Fitzsimons Cup in 1995–1996 and again in 2017–2018. Its 2017–2018 campaign also brought a reserve league title and the North East Football League Club of the Year award.
Torro bought five acres in 1998. Its published history describes two full size pitches, a training pitch, clubhouse and parking at the ground later named Powderly Park.
