A place to learn the game

From early club football to older age groups, KDUL gives young players a shared competition structure.

The association

Underage football across the district

Kildare & District Underage League, known as KDUL, serves clubs in Kildare and the surrounding districts. Its published introduction covers boys’ and girls’ teams from under-8 to under-18, bringing local football into an organised league structure.

KDUL is a separate organisation from the Kildare & District Football League. The underage league’s own safeguarding statement confirms its affiliation to the FAI and describes its responsibilities for competitions, league officials and work with clubs, volunteers and parents. Use the KDUL name when making an enquiry about its youth competitions.

Early football

Learning through small-sided games

KDUL provides separate coaching material for non-competitive football. Its younger-age handbook explains small-sided play, pitch arrangements, playing opportunities and the role of match officials, giving club coaches a common reference for the beginning of a player’s football journey.

The emphasis is practical: prepare the playing area, organise the group and help children enjoy their time on the pitch. Parents can ask their club which programme applies to their child. Coaches should check the league’s latest handbook for the age group rather than applying an older team’s match format.

Older age groups

Helping teams navigate competition

The competitive coaching handbook is written for managers, coaches and team officials working with under-12 to under-18 teams. It covers the competition programme, fixture arrangements, player eligibility, matchday responsibilities, referees and transfers.

The handbook supports the league’s Constitution and Rules; it does not replace them. For the 2026/2027 season, the official rules page links to the constitution approved at the AGM on 8 June 2026. Club officers can use that page to check the full requirements before submitting an administrative request.

Families and welfare

Clear standards around young players

KDUL’s safeguarding material includes a child safeguarding statement, risk assessment and social media policy. Its website also separates codes of conduct for coaches, players and parents, and executive and sub-committee members.

These documents set expectations for the people around youth football as well as the players themselves. Families and volunteers can read the official safeguarding statement and ask the club for its own welfare contact. The league also publishes a complaints procedure, with a dedicated route on its website.

Clubs and matchdays

Keep the age group and competition together

The official KDUL site links to its competition directory and player-registration service. A club can have several teams, so use the named age group and division when checking a fixture, discussing a result or arranging a visit.

For a new player, contact the club about joining and training. For club administration, start with the league’s published documents, including its internal transfer form. Confirm match arrangements with the team before travelling, particularly after a change of venue or kickoff time.
